Short Summary
Our newest short film "Boxes" is a college senior thesis film, written and directed for David Linthicum (more information on the director below). This film is the culmination of a decade of education in filmmaking and the beginning of the next decade as David and his colleagues push forward into the professional world.
"Boxes" is a lighthearted, buddy comedy that follows Charlie, a delivery driver who has left a package at the wrong house. When informing the owner, Charlie is dragged into the middle of a drug mulling situation in which Leo, a local pothead is receiving packages for the Russian Mafia. After being threatened, Charlie and Leo must find a way to get along and locate the package.
The inspiration behind this film comes from other famous comedy writers such as Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg, Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland. Among the inspiring buddy comedies were films like Due Date, Pineapple Express, Superbad, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

What We Need & What You Get
Our goal for this film is to raise $2500. I am sure with your help, we will be able to surpass that! Filmmaking is an expensive venture and while we have been lucky enough to secure many parts of production by way of donations, there are still many that we will need to purchase or rent.
Part of our fundraising efforts will go right to location rentals. There is one location that we were not able to secure without cost. $1,000 will go towards equipment rentals for the remaining equipment needed. Much of our equipment we are able to receive from the University, but we are in need of some pieces that they do not have in terms of camera movement devices, as well as audio and lighting equipment. The remaining funds will be used for food costs for the cast and crew, set decoration, props and makeup and supplies to maintain a COVID-19-safe work environment.
We know times are tough. Our decision to produce this comedy short film is to spread joy and laughter at this time of great sadness. By helping us to do that, we are sending out Boxes of Joy! Our amazing perks packages offer you an opportunity to have keepsakes from the film you are investing in and even become involved yourself! The Impact
To elaborate on what I said before, when writing this script, it was a very tough time for the United States and the world. COVID-19 decimated our way of living and forced us all into our homes, boxes if you will. With little to do and starving for a better situation, we turn to the movies. They allow us to escape our current challenges for just a few moments. We can all feel happy and excited for these characters as they move through the world of their story.
"Boxes" is a short film designed for that sort of escape. We wanted to provide the world with a lighthearted and hilarious buddy comedy, something that reminds us that it is okay to laugh and have some fun! With your help, we can share a smile, a laugh, and friendship with someone who just might need it!
Risks & Challenges
Our biggest challenge right now is the safety of our cast and crew while working on the project. This has become our top priority. Fortunately, we have a plan in place. Moving through the pre-production process, our work has been almost entirely online. Whether it is crew meetings, writers room discussions or the like, we have utilized programs like Zoom and FaceTime to communicate from the safety of our homes.
Our director, David Linthicum, has experience working on-set during COVID-19 already. On the set of "Jessie", a film in which he was the Producer, part of his role was the development and execution of an On-Set Procedure for keeping the cast and crew as safe as possible. That film held production in August 2020 and in the months following, not one member of the cast or crew became ill. We will be utilizing those same procedures here on this film, some of which include:
- All cast and crew will wear masks on set, except specifically when on-camera.
- The majority of our film is shot in exterior locations and limiting the number of cast members needed for each scene.
- Each member will receive a personal bottle of sanitizer, along with a communal one.,
- All food and beverage will be served in individually wrapped containers.
- Each area of the production, including equipment, props, contacted surfaces, etc. will be sanitized in between each use.
Aside from COVID-19, the only other challenge so far has been funding. We are just under 8 weeks until production and we are working hard to find the necessary funds to bring the film to life. With your help, we are confident that this film is going to be our best yet!
