Short Summary

The Buchanhaven Heritage Society were set up to safeguard the past for future generations to enjoy and learn from.

As part of an asset transfer process the society are looking for community funding to support the refurbishment of the former school and establish a heritage centre for all to benefit from.

In addition to old photographs and artefacts from the former village the centre hosts classes in skills such as knitting and crochet, art and photography.

The centre is seen as the focal point for the community and the refurbishment of the former school is essential to the development of the area action plan.

What We Need & What You Get

The funding will support the refurbishment plan for the centre and be part of the costs for the new windows for the former school re-introducing the sash and case style formerly in place.

If you contribute different options are available for different levels of funding support.

Level 1 will see your name added to a commemorative book to be compiled by Rehannah Mian of My Story-My Piece of History.

Level 2 will see your name added to the book and an invite to the opening ceremony once the refurbishment is complete.

Level 3 will see your name added to the book, an invite to the opening ceremony and your name added to a roll of honour oak panelled board within the centre.

The Impact

The former school was built in 1850 and has played a significant part in the education of children from the village since that time. Without your support the development of the centre can not take place and the centre will be at risk of being developed in other ways.

Too often our heritage has been lost due to lack of support and the group are keen to ensure this does not happen to the former school.

Presently the centre plays host to a range of activities and exhibitions and supports the social inclusion aspect of any regeneration plan.

Without your support the future development plan can not take place, so your support is critical to the delivery phase of the project.
