Chloe and the Stars is an original cartoon from the creator of Cartoon Network's "A Kitty Bobo Show." Help us fund the pilot episode!
"Chloe and the Stars is the future of hand-drawn animation!" - Jerry Beck, Animation Historian (Cartoon Research)
"Pure Cartoon Joy! Chloe and the Stars are ready to rock and roll!" - Josh O'Neil, Locust Moon Comics (creator of the Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream Kickstarter)
"Chloe and the Stars is super fun!" - David Mack (Kabuki, Daredevil)
"Super cool animated project in the spirit of Josie and the Pussycats and The Monkees!" - Dan Krall (Coraline, Samurai Jack)
Chloe and the Stars is about four girls in an up-and-coming punk rock band that travels the galaxy. They haven't hit it big yet and must travel to backwater planets to perform, taking gigs where they can get them. But there are plenty of obstacles standing in their way: rival musicians, long road trips, angry locals, black holes, alien warlords, giant monsters, hipsters, and bad coffee. And that's just one gig.
It's an animated, science fiction, action musical, and we need your help to bring it to life.
"Chloe" was created by Meaghan Dunn, a 17-year veteran of the animation industry, who got her start at Cartoon Network in the late 90s. While at Cartoon Network, she created a pilot, "A Kitty Bobo Show." "Kitty Bobo" aired in 2001 and came in second place in Cartoon Network's Big Pick Weekend.
Meg's running her own studio now, Dunnamic Animation. Based in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, Dunnamic has been in steady operation since 2010, paying the bills with animation and design work for major clients like Chase Bank, Wells Fargo, Johnson & Johnson, Hilton, Keller Williams, Ford, FEMA, HP, Crayola, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Collaborating with us on the music is the Droogettes, an all-girl sugar Oi! band based in Philadelphia.
The Droogettes were formed by Philadelphia area musicians, Rachel Starlett, Frankie, and Jenn Reiling in the fall of 2012. The trio was later joined by singer and drummer Jamie DiPelli. The Droogettes' vision was clear from their earliest conception: to provide the Punk and Oi! movement with an all-female alternative to a scene that is mostly dominated by males.
Another band that is helping out with song writing is The Sheckies. The Sheckies are a Pop-Punk band from Cape May, NJ. Formed in February 2004, the members are Andy Social (lead vocals, guitar), The King (drums, backing vocals) and Geo Suicide on bass and backing vocals.
Heavily influenced by The Ramones and many of today’s pop punk artists, The Sheckies are in the forefront of the “Pogo Punk” movement. Their name is taken from a character in the movie, “It Came From Hollywood.”
We're also very lucky to have the support of Frederator Studios. We've partnered up with them as part of the Channel Frederator Network, and they're backing and promoting our Kickstarter efforts to get Chloe and the Stars off the ground and into orbit.
Founded by Fred Seibert in 1998, Frederator is responsible for producing several popular shows, such as The Fairly Oddparents, Adventure Time, and Bravest Warriors.
We are lucky to have the amazing talent of Steve Wilder Blumenthal who is in charge of the sound design. That means he is in charge of composing the original score and coordinating the talent of various musicians, in addition to handling the audio and sound design you hear in the show. His website is: http://www.wilderbluemusic.com
We also had the great experience of having filming done by a talented company, Spirit Animal, a Philadelphia based media and post-production house. Their website is: http://www.spiritanimal.tv
It's about a band. In space.
There's more.
The band has magical instruments that transform into weapons when they're in danger - or when they just need to hit something.
Their manager is a transforming, robotic dog who doubles as their lead singer's guardian.
They have a rival, Lavender, who has a promising future as a world-conquering super-villain if the whole music thing doesn't work out.
So, who are the members of the band?
Chloe is the lead guitarist and lead singer. Excitable, focused, and a little neurotic, her only goal is to make Chloe and the Stars the best it can be.
Emily is Chloe's close friend, a keytar player, and the youngest member of the band.
Nico is the bass player. She's the most serious musician with the most intense personality.
Zi, the drummer, is a free-spirited alien who is friendly to everyone and everything.
In the pilot episode, Chloe is trying to get the band together for their first serious gig, the Galactic Battle of the Bands. It's a highly-competitive event featuring bands from all over the star system. Standing in their way is Lavender, the prima donna leader of Lavender and the Clones. Lavender is determined to stop Chloe from getting to the gig, and she's willing to sacrifice as many entirely disposable clones as it takes.
In addition, $10,000 will cover production costs like casting, recording and paying voice talent, composing the music, sound and video editing, and other considerations that go into making a cartoon. Right now, we have a complete animatic with a rough scratch track, meaning preproduction is nearly done and we're ready to start animating.
We are doing as much as possible to keep costs low without sacrificing production value, and our goal is comparable, if not lower, to many similar projects. Every donation we get will go directly towards the creation of a five minute pilot episode of Chloe and the Stars, and anything we make over our goal will be spent on creating future episodes.
By contributing, you'll be helping to create a totally original, television-quality cartoon, without the outside influences that can water a production down. Have you ever watched a show and thought "This could be so much better, if only..."? We have, too. We're completely independent, and we don't have any sponsors or executives to deal with. We have the power to make exactly what we want, the way we want to - but we need your help to do it.
As a backer, you'll be a part of every step of the process, including casting auditions, voice recording, animation, and post-production. We want to hear from you, in order to make the best show we possibly can.
We know, we know. Supporting creators is all well and good, but what about the swag? We're offering a ton of great rewards for backers, including ringtones, an exclusive CD with music from the show, a DVD, show art materials, sneak previews, t-shirts, a chance to be drawn into the pilot, and other prizes only available through this campaign. We'll even name Chloe's ship after you!
We also have original art, generously donated to us by our fantastic artist and author friends! We've collected their work into an e-book and are including it as part of a rewards package for backers! Contributors include:
