Cuba is not a distant memory tinged in the sepia of dreams given up once upon a time in the Caribbean.
It is a nation: home to a people. And it is an identity: a state of being.
With Club Silencio, we ask: what happens when myth and reality collide?
Our fearless leading lady, Brooke Gomez, is an Oscar-winning, Cuban-American actress with a passion for Greek Tragedy. She has successfully achieved the American Dream only to find it leaves her empty. In taking a pilgrimage to a new country, she buries the past and builds a new nightclub. But, when she pulls back the curtains and veneer of blue velvet, she finds that the cabaret’s performance extends out into daily Cuban society. Can she truly assimilate and reinvent herself in Communism?
The origin story of Club Silencio begins with the Cuban Cultural Center of New York, our emotional home for all things de la isla. Their decision to sponsor a new play planted the creative seed that launched our first artistic collaboration.
Because we live in Capitalism, everything costs money, coño! Your generous support goes towards moving this journey forward: any contribution (not matter the size) will be put towards rehearsal space, props, costumes, marketing, and a stipend for the actors.
We cannot wait to bring this story to life, but need your help to do it.
Help us build a new mythology today!
