Hey there! Thanks so much for stopping by our latest Coffee Meets Water campaign. After last year’s campaign and your amazing support to repair broken water wells in Sidama, Ethiopia, we’re back at it again! This time, we’re focusing on another coffee-producing community: Acatenango, Guatemala. Coffees from Acatenango Valley are known for their fragrant aromas, making them super delicious to drink… but the majority of homes and schools in this community lack clean and safe drinking water for the people working on all these coffee farms.
Almost no clean drinking water for the men, women and children who live in the communities where our coffee beans come from? We’re not cool with that! We all know how important water is for great tasting coffee (and also, for life!), so our goal for this year is to provide clean drinking water in Acatenango, starting with 7 schools that educate over 1,700 students (the children of the hardworking coffee farmers!).
*See why we need to reach our goal for this campaign, and who we're trying to get clean water for:

You can get clean water flowing for the children in Guatemala starting with the water they receive in their schools. Your tax-deductible contribution will allow us to purchase 7 brand new water filtration systems for 7 schools in Acatenango (in the communities of: Quisache, Pacacay, Paraxaj, Pajales, Los Planes, La Pampa and La Concepcion), impacting the lives of over 1,700 students! All filtration systems will be purchased locally in Guatemala.

Did you know that over 440 million school days are lost each year due to water-related illnesses? Most children don't even realize that there is a difference between drinking clean water versus dirty, contaminated water. Providing access to clean water will decrease the number of missed school days because kids will no longer get sick from the dirty water they drink… allowing them to prioritize their education, and ultimately setting them up on the path to secondary education and to graduate. An educated population directly impacts the growth of a country's national economy because it improves the capacity of its labor force. By investing in a child's education, our goal is to impact the development of an entire country. You can be a part of changing a child’s life by providing something as simple as water.

Meeting our goal through Coffee Meets Water will provide new water filtration systems for 7 schools. If we exceed our goal (which would be awesome!), the money raised will go toward providing home water filtration units to the families of the students, so we can impact their health in BOTH their school and their home. Each residential water filtration unit costs approximately $60, so the money raised above and beyond our original goal is still in line with our overall mission to provide access to clean water for the people of Acatenango, Guatemala.
If we don’t meet our goal (sad face) we’ll use the funds you have generously donated to provide as many water filtration systems to as many schools as we can. One school with clean drinking water is waaay better than no schools, so we really appreciate your support. Any amount helps!

Good Neighbors is an international humanitarian organization and we’ve been working in Guatemala for almost 10 years. We strive to improve the lives of Guatemalan families through education, health, water and sanitation, as well as income generation projects so that families can learn the skills necessary to earn an income and become self-sufficient.
Our unique Coffee Meets Water campaign focuses on changing the access to clean water in communities around the world who produce coffee. The majority of the world’s coffee-producing regions are in developing countries that lack basic human rights, such as clean water and sanitation facilities, access to education and more. With your help, together we can change the world, starting with how we see a single cup of coffee and the people behind it.
