Update: As I write this we're $256 away from being fully funded! This is amazing and humbling. Thank you all who have donated so far!
Further investment will help me grow Knitted Wit even more. The purchase of three vertical swifts will allow me to increase production significantly (I'll be able to wind yarn into skeins more quickly -- which means you'll see more regular shop updates and I'll be able to take on more LYS orders). Each swift costs $525, are of incredible quality and made in the US.
Let's make the new goal $5,000 and take Knitted Wit to a whole new level of production!
Since 2007, Knitted Wit’s Lorajean Kelley has brought her unique sense of color to hand-dyed yarn and fiber, allowing knitters and crocheters from coast to coast to craft with an exciting palette of colors. This woman-owned and operated business has grown by leaps and bounds in the last seven years – Knitted Wit has outgrown its space in Lorajean’s Portland, Oregon, home.
From Lorajean Kelley:Knitted Wit can no longer thrive as a home-based business, so we're moving to a studio space allowing us to continue growing and offering an ever-increasing selection of hand-dyed yarn and fiber. Once settled in our new space, we're looking forward to connecting with more local yarn stores across the US, offering workshops locally, and continuing to offer our community-minded quality customer service.With the move Knitted Wit also needs to invest in equipment for the new studio space.
The most important items needed are:
• A stove for cooking the yarn and setting the dye;
• A washing machine to spin out the excess water from the yarn;
• A two-bay sink for efficiently rinsing yarn and fiber; and
• An exhaust fan for keeping the studio fume-free.
The new studio space already has water plumbed to the perfect location, allowing for prompt sink and washing machine installation. Another benefit of the new location is that the building is heated with gas, so with minor movement of pipes we'll be setup and cooking (yarn, that is)! Funds raised through the campaign will be used to purchase and install this needed studio dyeing equipment.
Once the Knitted Wit Studio is up and running, we hope to provide a friendly space for the Portland yarn community, hosting dye workshops and meet-ups.
Thank you for supporting Knitted Wit!
