Short Summary
Dave is a good friend of our family and a father of two. Despite major physical ailments including (but not limited to) degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, he remains as active as he can in taking care of his children. He also spent the better part of 2012 effectively running the primary campaign for GOP candidate Martin Baker in Missouri District 1 on a volunteer basis.
After a long fight with his previous employer regarding disability pay (which he was ultimately denied), his employment was terminated and his health issues have made securing another position impossible. An application for Social Security disability is pending, but is not likely to yield results quickly.
Through all this, he continues to volunteer any time he can to promoting FairTax and other causes about which he is passionate. Although he relies in part on food stamps for his own subsistence, he constantly opens his home to people he feels are in greater need than he is.
Until a few months ago, he was making do with a 2001 Saturn that was nearing 200,000 miles and could not be driven in reverse. Since then, the transmission has gone out completely, making it at best slightly dangerous for him to drive - especially with his children in the car.
With the help of a few friends, he has secured enough funding to ensure that while his disability application is being processed he will not lose his house. We didn't count on him losing his car. And his medical costs are increasing, as recent tests indicate he may have more health concerns to deal with in the future.
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is to raise $3000 in 30 days. That's just $100 a day for one month. We want to use that money to find Dave a reliable used car so that he can worry about the things that really matter: his health and his children. Anything we are able to raise over and above that $3000 will either go toward getting him a better car or be applied directly to his increasing medical costs.
The Impact
When you contribute to this campaign, you aren't just helping Dave make it to and from the doctor's office (although you are doing that). You aren't just helping him get to the grocery store or take his children to the park (although you're doinat that as well). You're helping Dave's friends give back something to a man who has given repeatedly of himself even when there was virtually nothing left to give.
Other Ways You Can Help
i know it's murder, asking regular people to contribute money in this economy. And if you don't have a dollar to spare, trust me, I understand. So does Dave. But if you took the time to read this and you still want to help, just share this link. Maybe your share will help Dave's story reach the person who puts us over our goal amount.
