At disk42 we believe in privacy. We believe that your files should be secure. You are the only person who should access your data. You have the right to decide who sees your documents and photographs.

disk42 is an online cloud storage service focused on user privacy and data security. We encrypt all your files with state-of-the-art cryptography algorithms before they are uploaded to our servers. Because your password is never sent to our servers we have no access to your files. We cannot analyze your data ourselves or sell it to others. This means that all your files stay private and secure, even in the cloud. To guarantee maximum security, disk42 was created using the latest open source software.

 

disk42 was founded on the principles of open source. We have written a long article explaining why this is a good thing. First and foremost open source software guarantees maximum security for your files because all the code is transparent and can be reviewed by anyone. This means that any software bugs are found and fixed immediately, which is generally not the case with software created by major corporations. We are very grateful to the open source projects we have built upon (a special thanks goes to the great people of Haiwen, the creators of Seafile). In turn, disk42 is committed to being a good online citizen, contributing as much as we can to the open source community.

We have been working on disk42 for several months and we already have a prototype. You can find it on cloud.disk42.com. Our service is currently running in beta, meaning that it has limited features and it is not as user friendly as we want it to be. But taking a look at the beta is a great way to see what we have in mind and where we are heading.

• The development of all the features you would expect from a state-of-the-art cloud storage service
• Security analysis and penetration testing to make sure disk42 is bulletproof. Cure53, experts in this area, will do this part.
• Setup of our cloud infrastructure to make disk42 available to thousands of users.

Is disk42 free?
Yes, you can use disk42 free of charge, accessing 10 GB of cloud storage.

How are you currently funded?
Because this project (and privacy in general) means a lot to us, disk42 has been funded by the private savings of our founders.

When can I expect to get my perk?
All perks have an estimated delivery date. We promise we will do our best to meet that date. However getting disk42 setup and ready to use is a complex challenge. Thus we cannot guarantee the announced delivery date. What we can guarantee is pro-active and transparent communication in case our schedule changes.

Where do you store my data?
Currently we store your data at a hosting provider in France. We haven’t decided on the location for the final version of disk42, yet, but it will definitely be within the European Union.
