Overview
Dummy is a film about overcoming your deepest insecurities and transcending them to become a more complete person. Also there's puppets, and puppets are awesome. This will be the last film I make at Point Park University and I want it to be every bit as great as I imagine. With your help, my time at this school will not have been in vain. If you like puppets, comedy, helping broke college students achieve their dreams, or are just a generally awesome person, you should donate to this campaign!

The Plot

Dummy is a short comedy about an amateur ventriloquist named David Conway. David has garnered a small following at a local comedy club doing crude, self-deprecative humor with his puppet, Andy. While David grows disillusioned with this career path, Andy seems as if he will stop at nothing until he becomes a star. When the club's bartender, Liz convinces David to go solo, Andy retaliates.

The Crew

Aidan McGarvey - Writer/Director/Producer

Aidan discovered filmmaking in high school, when a film he made took home numerous awards from their annual film festival. He then went on to study Cinema Production at Point Park University where he has written and directed an array of short films. Two years in a row, his films were selected to be featured in the school's annual showcase in Los Angeles.

Daniel Kusnir - Director of Photography

Reel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fufMWh-4EMk

Daniel hails from New Brighton, Pennsylvania. His career in film began in 2008, when he started filming skateboarding videos. Since then, he has worked with numerous classifications of cameras on more sets than all of the other crew members of Dummy combined. Daniel's life is consumed by going from one set to another and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Jameson Mitchell - Editor

Reel: https://vimeo.com/211258285

Jameson Mitchell is a passionate and meticulous editor who is dedicated to the art of filmmaking. At heart, he is a storyteller that loves to share his creations with whoever is willing to watch. He's can't wait to make Dummy the best film in existence and share it with the WORLD!!

Ayla Miller - Production Designer

Website: aylarmiller.com

Ayla is a recent Point Park grad who has a passion for creativity and design. She loves composing new spaces and loves to play with color. She has an affinity for funky earrings and spends most of her free time writing poetry, adventuring and petting cats. She has absolutely no idea what she wants her career to be but couldn’t be more excited to be a part of Dummy!

Andrew Holman - Sound Design

After discovering editing in middle school and working on small online videos with friends, Andrew Holman quickly feel in love with the cramped and quiet spaces of the cutting room. His interest in the areas of editing and sound design have only expanded since starting classes in 2014. After working on productions such as Tossed, No Soliciting, and the indie gem Stargazer, he will continue to work and be the very best like no one ever was.

Austin Harvey - Co-writer/Script supervisor

If Austin Harvey were a chicken, he’d be impeccable. Egg jokes really crack him up. He apologizes for the bad puns, his brain is a little fried at the moment.  In all seriousness, Austin is a screenwriter living in Pittsburgh and attending Point Park University. He only agreed to work on this movie because AJ bought him a beer once.

What We Need

We need approximately $2000 to make this film. The money will be going toward:

  • Location Fees
  • Set Decoration
  • Puppet(s)
  • Craft Services
  • Musical Score
  • Actor Fees
  • Festival Distribution
  • And more!

Any extra funds will make the film that much better, and we have plenty of wishlist items that money could help with!

The Impact

By donating to this campaign, you will be helping us make our final film the best it can possibly be. This is a film we will all use to showcase our skills when we graduate and none of us want our creative sparks to be neutralized by lack of funding.

This is also the last time we will have access to the equipment and community that Point Park University provides so we want to put it to good use, and make this film the best it could possibly be.

Other Ways You Can Help
