What is The Abbey?
It is a coffee shop and a church. The Abbey will provide great coffee, espresso, tea, baked goods, and light meal options. It will also be a place to hang out, a place of community, and a comfortable space to explore issues of faith and spirituality.
The Abbey is influenced by the tradition of many monks and nuns who took on various secular professions - teaching, nursing, crafting, and even brewing beer. Besides being a way for monastics to support themselves, these were also ways in which ordinary folks came into contact with religious life. The Abbey hopes to be a place to rediscover and reimagine the traditions of the Christian Church in order to make Christianity readily available to anyone who wants to engage with it.
The Abbey seeks to be a place open to all people. It is a place for believers, questioners, non-believers, and everyone in between. It is open to and welcoming of all people, beliefs, non-beliefs, and faith traditions. All are welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, faith tradition, class, age, political party, education, gender, marital status, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
Here is what some folks have to say about worship at The Abbey:
What We Need
Through your enthusiasm we have a worshipping community that is gathering every Sunday. Now we need your help to raise the funds to get The Abbey built and open for business. Through our partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama via a loan, a generous grant from the National Episcopal Church, and fundraising efforts, we have raised the funds for the construction costs of $100,000.
But now we need your help to raise the $40,000 to finish construction and purchase our equipment: an espresso machine, coffee makers, coolers, oven, cups, plates, flatware, all the things that will help us serve great coffee and food items.

We have some fun items to say thank you for your support. We are offering a free drink coupon that you can use on your visit to The Abbey, notecards from our Deacon, coffee sleeves, t-shirts, travel mugs and whole bean coffee, a naming opportunity, and even having The Abbey come to your parish to host coffee hour and Sunday school.
