----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On December 2014 a toucan bird (Ramphastidae) from the forest of Grecia, Costa Rica was brought to the ZooAve rescue center in Alajuela. The veterinarians analysed the animal and noticed that he was completely healthy, despite having lost half of his beak.
Costa Rican news quickly covered the story and it was revealed that a group of children were responsible for damaging this endangered animal. Sadly enough, it's impossible for the toucan to go back to his natural environment. Without a beak the toucan is left helpless against other predators. Reproduction also seems unlikely, since the female Ramphastidae chooses her mates based on the color of their beak. Seems like the only solution is to create a prosthesis, but the government doesn't have funds dedicated to saving one single animal.
I believe that we can save this bird together and have contacted OrthoPets, a company specialized in Orthotics and Prosthetics for Animals in Denver, Colorado, and they are more than willing to help building a new beak for this toucan. Please help me save this species! Every single donation, even a small one, will contribute to making this world a more beautiful place. Change is made with one small act of goodness a day, will you make the change with me?

UPDATE:
Wow! Our team is overwhelmed with all the support. Not only have we reached our goal together, but we have done so in not even 48H!
We are in close contact with the parties in Costa Rica and the US to make the prosthesis a reality now. All further funds raised will go directly to the ZooAve Rescue Center in Alajuela, Costa Rica, to support them in the preservation of the beautiful wild birds and toucans there.
Feel free to share the love under the hashtag #savethetoucan to get the word out. This is the first successful project of its kind on IndieGogo, thank you so much for making it happen!
