The story

Hello, my name is Oswaldo Castro. I am a co-founder of a social organization called EIC (Education for Inclusive Communities). I live in Okinawa, Japan. Okinawa is surrounded by emerald beaches; it has a rich and unique Ryukyu culture; and warm and friendly people. I am the father of 3 curious, intelligent, and lovely daughters, and currently, I work as an English teacher.

The pandemic has drastically impacted our life and especially the lives of girls. A lack of self-expression, communication, and increased emotional problems are just a few of the issues. In Japan, high rates of suicide was recorded since the financial crisis of 2009. Sadly, teenage girls were the most affected. We know the challenges of returning to school after a long time of staying at home. In addition, we have seen how anxiety and depression spread without limits. For many, a “new pandemic" has emerged, the impact on mental health.

Global Girls Meeting (GGM) is a project carried out by EIC Okinawa to build a supportive community of teenage girls from different countries to share their experiences, interests, and emotions through digital storytelling.

We are a team comprised of volunteers, community leaders, teachers, and mentors that seek to develop social advocacy programs to tackle local problems hand in hand with young people, migrants, and their families.

The journey has been not easy, and for this reason, your HELP is very valuable. Your donations will contribute to the cost of the necessary resources to ensure the implementation of a free online program for girls who suffered emotional problems, to engage them in their communities, develop new skills, and build unforgettable experiences.

COVID-19 のパンデミックは、ひとびとの生活、特に女の子の生活に大きな影響を与えています。 自己表現、コミュニケーションの欠如、感情的な問題の増加は、問題のほんの一部です。 日本では、2009 年の金融危機以降、高い自殺率が記録されています。悲しいことに、最も影響を受けたのは 10 代の少女でした。 長い間家にこもっていた後、学校に戻ることの難しさを私たちは知っています。 さらに、不安や抑うつが際限なく広がる様子も見てきました。 多くの人にとって、メンタルヘルスへの影響である「新しいパンデミック」が発生しています。

グローバル ガールズ ミーティング（GGM)とは、さまざまな国の 10 代のガールたちが集まってデジタル ストーリーテリングを通じて経験、興味、感情を共有するための支援コミュニティを作るプロジェクトです。
