As Venezuelan students in the US we believe that even though we are abroad, we can still contribute to the development of our home country. You too can join our cause! Give the gift of a dream by helping to fund the participation of our Embajadores Comunitarios in academic and leadership activities in DC.

Embajadores Comunitarios: Creating Leaders Where They Are Most Needed

Fundación Embajadores Comunitarios (FEC - Community Ambassadors Foundation) is a Venezuelan non-profit based in Caracas that aims to provide leadership skills to underprivileged youth through the Model United Nations methodology. Their international leadership training program, called MUNdial, selects a delegation of its most outstanding students each year to travel to the US and participate in leadership and academic activities.

In the Caracas’ barrios, nearly 50 people die due to violent crimes every week, and nearly half of them are young adults. They live in a world where it is common to drop out of school due to teen pregnancy. In this context, the Embajadores Comunitarios develop the necessary skills for peaceful negotiations and conflict resolution. This creates a world view that is not based on their everyday brushes with violence but with a more contrasting experience in diplomacy and tolerance.

After a long year of preparation and meetings the delegation leaves their home country for the first time and is welcomed to the US and to a whole new experience, the first outside their country. After participating in this trip these young adults awake to a world of possibilities and proceed to aim higher when setting goals for themselves. This experience will broaden their perspectives, reshape their lives and provide them with tools to change their communities.

Our goal is to raise the funds required for a week-long trip where they will visit important international organizations in Washington, DC and share their own experiences with the people they meet.

YOU CAN HELP US SHAPE THESE NEW LEADERS BY GIVING THE GIFT OF A DREAM NOW!

Goals

Now that you know the basics, let’s break the budget down for you.

We can make it even easier so you can see that every donation counts:

  • US$ 12 can buy one meal for a delegate.
  • US$ 50 can provide for the transportation expenses for one person.
  • US$ 80 can cover the cost of one night at a hotel for a person.
  • US$ 560 can pay for a delegate’s entire week at the hotel.
  • US$ 1500 can pay for the one person’s plane ticket.

The Impact

The FEC is committed to guiding their students towards a more civil approach to address local and international issues. The foundation has been around for 5 years and its trajectory has been outstanding. It started out as an initiative by college students and it has expanded to become a formal organization. Some of their achievements include:

  • 350 high school students trained in 5 years.
  • 30 ambassadors currently enrolled in colleges and universities.
  • 28 awards earned in national competitions.
  • 9 awards earned in international competitions.
  • 5 at-risk communities reached by this project.

We can see the impact on two dimensions, on the personal level and on the community level. Through their program, Embajadores Comunitarios, provides the necessary tools and teaches socio-emotional skills such as leadership, conflict resolution and negotiation. These skills will come in handy once they enter the workforce.  Embajadores Comunitarios provides an alternative to social change in a highly polarized political environment. It aims to promote change in the country, not through politics or economics, but from within the community by starting at the grass roots.

Once the delegates go back they will reach out to other students, family, and friends through a presentation to share their experiences, their new perspectives and everything they learned.
