Help CROW Rescue And Rehabilitate Wildlife!
I
I have always been a lover of animals. After going on Safari in South Africa a couple of years ago, I wanted to become much more involved with animal conservation and try to make a difference. As a composer/musician, I wanted to do something to combine my music with this desire; I then found an opportunity to do just that.
After my daughter graduated from high school in 2013, she took a gap year and volunteered at many animal conservation sites in South Africa, Zambia and Thailand. This allowed me to become familiar with a variety of organizations for which I might raise funds. My daughter felt that after working at CROW, this particular organization is trustworthy and is in great need of monetary funds. Although I have not personally met the director, my daughter's experience working there convinced me that they are worthy of our support. Founded 35 years ago, CROW (Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife) was one of South Africa’s first dedicated wildlife rehabilitation centres. Today, CROW is still KwaZulu-Natal’s only registered wildlife rehabilitation centre dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of all indigenous wildlife found in KwaZulu-Natal. Just as importantly, CROW is very involved with conservation education within the community and beyond, teaching young and old about the heartbreaking realities of poaching and the critical importance of preserving the many species that are on the path to extinction. The reality of the situation is dire.
From April 1st to July 1st, all funds from my new CD will go to CROW. (After this date, funds from the sales of the CD will go towards production and recording costs.) CROW is in constant need of funds to cover the costs of new enclosures, medicine for the animals, vet bills, etc. Its approach to conservation is humble and extremely effective. Run by a small, yet highly dedicated and experienced team of staff and volunteers, CROW assists over 3000 orphaned, injured and displaced animals every year. From mongoose, genets and monkeys to birds, reptiles and antelope, CROW represents a second chance at a free, safe and sustainable life for all wild animals in distress. My greatest desire for this project is that it will make people more aware of the needs of these animals and animal conservation in general.
