FILCAR (International Book Fair of the Caribbean), opens once a year in Margarita Island.
This book fair is the most important cultural event of the island, FILCAR is the only event that offers free entrance to conferences, lectures, and workshops related with writing, reading, editing and design, including a special hall for children.
During 9 days, children from public schools and poor families have the opportunity, some for the first time, of getting in touch with the pleasure of reading and listening to lectures and conferences about poetry, narrative, journalism, design and alternative editing.
More than 60 writers, coming from all the country as well as 6 international writers, volunteer to give lectures, but this time with an economic crises, that includes an inflation of 1,000%, we are struggling to make the fair possible.
With your contribution we hope to continue this important social enterprise that covers a population of 400,000 people in the island, as well as people that come from the rest of the country to feed with culture, in a country devastated by violence.
