Salma is 19 years old. Like any hardworking college student, she has big dreams: to work in the film industry, make movies that matter, and get experience on a film set. But because Salma was brought to the United States from Mexico at just 10 months old, Salma is undocumented - and dreams like hers don't often come true for kids like her.

Thankfully, Operation Street Kidz (OSK) has changed that. Salma is enrolled in OSK's unique Film Program at Santa Monica Community College. OSK empowers underserved youth of color to pursue careers in arts, media, and film through a combination of mentorship, training, and hands-on experience. In an industry where work history and connections are everything, Salma can now pursue her dreams, support her family, and inspire future generations to come.

A Show For A Change - a socially conscious production company - is thrilled to partner with OSK on our next short film, CumpleañeraCumpleañera tells the inspiring story of Gabriela, a Mexican-American teenager who we meet on her 13th birthday. Gabriela's father is Rafael - a working class construction worker - who has a secret that he's kept from Gabriela and her younger sister, Ana, for years. Today, Rafael is forced to confront his past - a reality that may take him away from his family forever.

Cumpleañera tackles topical themes such as immigration, family, and the plight of undocumented children living in the United States. Several OSK mentees will join us behind the camera on set, while also gaining invaluable experience working on a film production with a powerful social message.

But we can't make Cumpleanera alone. With your tax-deductible support, we can pay for production and post-production costs, such as locations, crew, meals, equipment, sound mixing and editing - and then share this film with the world. In addition, 15% of all funds raised here will directly support the inspiring work of OSK and help more young people of color like Salma gain meaningful experience in the film industry.

No matter the amount you give - $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or more - know that it means the world to young people like Salma with big dreams. Plus, every donation is tax-deductible. So, make a donation today and share this page with at least three friends. Every bit helps.
