They say puns are the lowest form of humor, yet here I am endeavoring to run a food cart called ¡Holy Tamale! Two years ago I was probably just making a bad Batman joke to a friend who wanted to go out for Mexican food, but I immediately knew I had struck gold. Comedic and otherwise.
Several hundred tamales later, I have mastered the dough, my technique, and honed recipes on a few different phenomenal salsas. The only thing left to do is start a business!
My base goal is $9,000. This amount covers the cost of the moped and the cart, all of my startup costs, and allows me to do awesome things like
-offer salsa sides on the cart
-get creative with tamale fillings, with flavors like roast duck & mole, and a variety of (gasp) breakfast tamales.
My stretch goal is $12,000, which would enable me to launch a full line of seasonal salsas without waiting for Holy Tamale! to generate the funds which that would require. Salsas would be made available in 8 oz. and 16 oz. jars for sale at local farmer's markets and grocery stores, as well as online.
That stretch total also gives me the opportunity to affix a water heater to the cart, to serve coffee and tea with breakfast tamales, which would be hugely awesome.
Delicious food is delicious, and sustainability is awesome. This is why I have buddied up with Big Train Farms in Chepachet, RI, ensuring that my ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible.
