Short Summary

Just three months ago we were just two average families from the suburbs of Atlanta. Then our daughters decided to head off to Malindi, Kenya to volunteer in a local hospital. While there, they met and fell in love with 28 kids from the Home of Hope Orphanage. We then spent just one afternoon there as we were setting off on a week-long safari at the end of the girls stint as volunteers...That one day changed our lives forever.  We have committed ourselves to help the orphanage director, Sophia.  Sophia and her daughter Maria bring so much love to these children but the money has not flowed the way they had hoped.  We are currently helping them on a monthly basis to buy food but what they really need to is become self-sustaining!  Your donation to this cause goes beyond a sack of rice that is consumed and needs to be replenished again next month.  Donating to this cause is an investment that grows for years and years to come.

What We Need & What You Get

We need $3,000 to set them up with:

  • Two acres of fertile farmland
  • One shed for storing farm tools
  • Farm Tools
  • Cows, Goats, and Chickens
  • Chicken coop and Goat pen
  • Pipes and hosing to transport water
  • Seedlings and seeds including tomatoes, corn, bananas, casava, pawpaws, etc.

The Impact

The impact of a self-sustaining Home of Hope Orphanage is huge!  Right now, we are sending them money on a monthly basis that is used solely for food.  If they can help feed themselves, the money we send can be used for medical care, clothing, and education.  All things we take for granted, but for the children at Home of Hope - this is a luxury!  The old saying of 'Give a man a fish - he can eat for a day.  Teach the man to fish - he can eat for a lifetime'  has such meaning here.  We are setting them up for a lifetime of nutritious food.

The other impact that setting up this farm for the orphanage will have long term is in skill development for these children.  These kids need to have a skill to help them survive outside of the orphanage.  Farming is a skill these kids can take into adulthood!
