Internet for Liberia's Mental Health Clinicians
Liberia is one of of the poorest countries on earth and continues to get back on its feet from civil war. A country with one psychiatrist for over 4 million people, Liberia relies on a group of 120 recently trained nurses known as Mental Health Clinicians to be the psychiatrists for the country.
We at Mount Sinai work to train, teach, and supervise the MHC's, lending them our knowledge, experience, and moral support for what is often daunting, under-resourced and isolating work. In order to provide more support to the MHC's in between our trips to Liberia, we want to provide long-distance supervision/teaching to them. We have bought them computers, but now they need Internet access!
The $5000 we seek to raise will enable us to purchase one year's worth of internet for MHC's who will be paired with nine of our volunteer psychiatrists here in New York City.
