Why to support our project?
One of the biggest issues for people eating kosher is often a noticeably higher price compared to similar non-kosher products. The Third Conference of Kashruth Organizations in Europe raised the problem of overpriced kosher food as one of the most important (http://www.ejdf.eu/?catID=22789&siteLang=2).
Mobile app “Is it kosher?” creates a prominent diversity on kosher market. Our project helps to widen the selection of kosher products. This is just a simple math – the bigger a selection of products available, the simplier is to find a better deal.
For example, you are buying a your favorite ketchup in upside-down bottle because you know it is kosher. 1-liter pack is about 3 euros (yes, we have such prices here). But what if you know that similar kosher ketchup is only 2 euros? Wouldn’t you at least consider buying a less expensive option? And you get this information just by a few quick taps in your iPhone or Android device.
KosherDev team resides in Tallinn, Estonia and we know how it is difficult to find kosher products in such place as ours. Since we started our project selection of kosher food widened significantly. So, our own experience with this project proves that “It is kosher?” not only helps to find our which product is kosher, it also helps to cut on your everyday kosher groceries spendings.

How it started?
“Is it Kosher?” project was started in February, 2013. The idea of the project was to help consumers to find kosher products in any shop all over the world.
Why we created this project?There are plenty of kosher products in any ordinary supermarket, but the problem is that not all of them bear kosher symbol or any other kosher identifiers. This might be done by a producer for some marketing reasons. So, the same product package in different countries might have or not kosher symbol.
Local kosher authorities create lists of kosher products for current region or country to help find kosher products in any shop. This is pretty convenient for a local consumer to check product for kosher status in the list. But the problem is that a consumer should look through huge lists in the search of definite product. Even if convenient search engine is established, it is not suitable for mobile usage. Bigger Kosher Authorities start developing mobile apps to search for a kosher status of a product. This is a great help, but still a consumer should have 4-5 different apps on a smartphone to search in every of them about status.
Yet one more problem is with products bearing kosher symbol by mistake or without authorisation. Kosher Authorities issue alerts, but it is difficult to follow all of them.
What does it do?“Is it Kosher?” project solves all the upper mentioned problems. This is intended to be a global platform to simplify search for kosher products in any place of the world. Our project gives immediate access to about 40 different resources and databases of kosher products.
Achievements
During this year we managed to release mobile apps for Android, Web browsers and iOS (March, 2014). More than 10000 downloads of Android app and more than 6000 active users prove that this app is awaited and getting more and more popular.
"Is it Kosher?" project was named as an official application in the Netherlands (http://www.nik.nl/2013/08/nieuw-kasjroetlijst-nu-ook-op-app-voor-smartphone/). Conference of European Rabbis awarded project the third place in CER Internet Entrepreneurs Contest (http://www.cerprize.org)
What for do we need money?
We have a lot of ideas, how to make our apps even more useful for customers. See some of them:

Offline access to Kosher product databases. We know, that many people travel around the world. Internet in roaming is not cheap and we know it. We want to help you save you money while traveling. You will be able to download a database for certain region or country and use it offline.

User-generated kosher products database. Small communities will get a possibility to create their own lists for certain place. We want to develop a system, which will allow people to share their information with others.
- We have so many ideas and even more are coming from our users, that we need really much time and work to make them all working. Support our project and you will see how it is growing.
