Every donation given means a lot to us, it insures sustainability to the bookshop and our dear Travelling Bookshop "Nancy".
Few days are left for the campaign period and I'm Blessed by the support of my friends and Kawon's spreading community, I have a strong belief in all of you, Thank you so much :)
Cultural Trip has just published an amazing article about "Kawon" and "Books on the Road", please share it with everyone you know :)![]()
Being the first bookshop in town is not enough. Here's the story of Kawon:
In the beginning of 2016, the idea of Kawon was born. The fledgling idea emerged from the heart of the community for the need of change in our society, to make people more familiar with the benefit of reading through self–learning methods and social activities.
Kawon started as self-funded project. After facing financial stress, Kawon launched a social street initiative called “Books On the Road” to help fund the project in Madaba, Jordan.

Books on the Road involves displaying books on a 1974 Mercedes 200 called "Nancy." Making a unique signature on people passing by, Books On the Road has gained local and international interests and has became one of Amman’s main attractions.
We have finally opened our bookshop in Madaba and have been operating since December 2, 2016.

**Our Campaign**
Asking for 50,000 dollars might be a little challenging! That's why I wanna tell you where the campaign money will go and how it will be spent.
First, to launch our "Books On the Road" campaign around the twelve cities of Jordan we need to transform "Nancy the car." That includes some body work and the visual identify of the car and adding a caravan/trailer that stores a good amount of books. We also need to fix the mechanics and engine of Nancy to enable me to travel long distances to villages and remote areas where I can deliver books to kids and young people for free to be part of the bookshop's community service.
Second, expanding the bookshop in Madaba will need a lot of work:
- Restoring and preserving the extension of the ancient building we currently occupy.
- Fixing the infrastructure of the building.
- Building bathrooms for people to use.
- Installing water tanks and plumbing.
- Improving our electrical grid (renewable energy).
Third, fixing the Eco Garden behind the bookshop for people to engage in and enjoy: to sit and read and get creative.
Fourth and finally, free books aren't free! We will need to continually buy a good amount of books to be distributed to kids and young people to spread reading culture throughout Jordan, even in the hard-to-reach places!
Other ways you can help:
- You can help out by sending us used books to P.O. Box 745 Madaba 17110, Jordan.
- Link us to an NGO or a foundation for grant recommendations.
- Get involved with us through your work (e.g. consulting, business planning, etc.).
