Hello wonderful people of the world.
We are Zena and Joel, a couple who live, farm and run an art studio and a beach resort in Palawan, Philippines www.kiaoresort.com .
We have been successfully helping our community and our land through different projects since 2013, the outcome of our hard work motivates us to keep going with our mission of making the world a happier more colourful place to live in for EVERYONE.
Your contribution will go entirely to social and environmental projects.
We will need to gather at least 500 euros for this season's projects, one of the first is an English class for women, that will focus on waste management and a communal veggie garden.
The women in our village (labtay) are in the bottom of the food chain, they work hard for their family, they have no where to go and get no attention from anyone. When they heard about a free english class where they can get together and get some snacks, the word spread fast, and before we knew it, we have women of all ages waiting with anticipation to participate.
For that we need 1 year worth of school material, healthy snacks once a week for 25 women, organic seeds for planting in the garden, and about 50 waste buckets, for hard and organic waste.
If we don't meet our goal, we will have to compensate out of our own personal budget, and if we gather more than needed for this project, then the money will go for the next projects. Like a public toilet and out door game areas.
With time we will send pictures and details of how the project is going, there will also be a pen pal program for the ladies to practice, for those who are interested please lets us know on Zena.kiao@gmail.com
The Impact of your help
With Palawan being one of the last surviving forest land in the Philippines, and the fact that corruption and modernisation are taking over at rapid speed, it is absolutely essential that we are prepared for what is coming, we realise that we can not stop change and none of us have an idea of the impact that change, on our community and on the land, we still have no electricity or phone signals where we live, and we believe that there is still some time in our hands to preserve some of the traditions and educate our youth and give them the right equipment to thrive in their natural habitat, the rainforest, without excluding them from the rest of the country and the inevitable changes.
Our last project was in three different communities in the northern
part of Palawan
where we build three schools, that will
also function as a shelter in case of nasty weathers, if interested in our past work, please click the link http://www.kiaoresort.com/#!projects/cb0v
