I get to be 1 in 500,000- that's the number of people who get Appendix Cancer. Most of my life I've been 1 of 7 that's how many brothers and sisters I have. Hope, value, encouragement and support are just a few of the things that I want to pass on to others. My belief is that going through this journey with a first person account and opening up about the personal struggles, fears, encouragements and triumphs might serve my fellow man. Looking at cancer stories- It's hard to find a lot of good, so just maybe, I can let others join me on this roller coaster account of Cancer and How it is about to change my life. I'm a husband, father, and just some guy struggling to make sense of how this experience can make a difference.

After a ruptured appendectomy my appendix was tested and an Adenocarcinoma tumor was found. Snap shot ahead a couple months and I find myself in Texas at MD Anderson in a waiting room about to get a CT scan to see where the cancer is at. Yesterday, I went into the consult and was told I would start Chemo in a week and the surgery known as, " The Mother of all surgery's" would take place in 3 to 6 months depending on my reaction to Chemotherapy. Yeah, it was really hard to hear. Even harder to hold back the tears. When your told cancer has metastasized to distal parts of your body through your blood and is in your liver, colon, abdominal cavity and several other places have large tumors there isn't much to do except cry!

Questions swirled around my head. Questions like: what are my chances of survival, what would my world look like now, how will my daughter be able to grow up without a dad, why is this happening to me, then I bounced back into wanting information on everything and began asking questions. On the way home I solidified the need to keep my spirit's up. The doctor's said, "focus on life, eat a balanced diet, exercise, have fun, keep a good spirit, but above all Don't loose weight" there goes my special diet!

My goal is to begin a blog about Appendix Cancer and write about my experience as it happens. I will be as honest as possible in how I feel, the news I hear, what the doctors say, and what I'm actually going through. I will include articles about MD Anderson and services they offer me. I will interview willing cancer patients about their personal story and encourage others.

Please join me in my efforts to be an encouragement to others and help me achieve success in my own personal battle.

Thank You,

David Boswell
