Short Summary
Kids in Diapers (KID) was founded to serve families in underprivileged communities that need support in order to simply ensure their children’s diaper needs are covered. Diapers are one of the most expensive costs a parent has when raising a young child, and it is one of the costs that is not covered by social services or other government support. We aim to bridge that gap so every child can be properly cared for in the most comfortable and hygienic fashion.
What We Need & What You Get
Through a combination of corporate sponsors, individual donors, and manufacturing partners, we will source diapers to fill the needs of children at all stages of childhood. We will ensure that these families can access the diapers they need through strategically placed distribution warehouses and individual volunteers that will provide delivery support.
We are looking for $10,000 in donations to help us offset the start up costs and support our marketing efforts to get the word out in the community with both donors and recipients.
The Impact
The American Public Health Association publics results of a study in 2020 that it had been conducting since 2016 amongst low-income families in central and south Florida. The results of that study show the percentage of children experiencing diaper need that received assistance from a diaper bank ranged from 0% to 16% per month, leaving between 84% to 100% of families still in need from a month-to-month basis. The findings from this study highlight that a small proportion of low-income families accessed diapers through the existing community-based safety net provided by a national network of nonprofit diaper banks.
The Tampa Bay Area has a large community need with there being about 870,505 children living below the poverty line in Tampa Bay, in 2020.
Risks & Challenges
The Tampa Bay Area has a lack of free diaper assistance for those in need. By developing a network of partners that include other area diaper banks, corporate sponsors, and individual donors, we can make a substantially larger impact in the community and do more to fill the gap.
Keeping a constant influx of product from a mixture of manufacturing partners, corporate sponsors, and individual contributors will ensure that we have the product on hand to meet the needs of our community that our organization has set out to fill.
