The Ahimsa Dairy Foundation is
100% slaughter-free. We retire our cows to pasture when they have given us their
best, and instead of being killed, our male calves work the land
when they are old enough to be trained.
We are a pioneering dairy. We were established four years ago, and have been working hard to supply milk products and achieve our slaughter-free goal in Britain. We are the first dairy to do this, but we eventually want to see a network of slaughter-free micro-dairies around the UK.
But Despite Our Success, We Face A Challenge ...
When we began, in order to start with minimum capital, we partnered with an established organic dairy. They have been managing the breeding of our cows, and while we are very grateful to them, they have not been able to fully facilitate our calves with ongoing access to their mothers
(beyond the basic organic standard of just five days together). Also they require that our cows give birth annually, rather than every two plus years, which we would prefer. We feel giving birth every year can become very stressful for a cow, and we, and many of our supporters, have become increasingly unhappy about this.
So We've Decided To Take Matters In Our Own Hands
We have decided to go it alone: to run our own
dairy completely to the highest possible welfare standards. This will mean that we can ensure a calf will
have ongoing access to its mother for a minimum of six months. Under our system, cows will only become pregnant every two to four years. We also want to primarily milk by hand. We aim to manage
the size of our herd very carefully. ensuring that we know every cow’s name and
their character. In essence, we are aiming for nothing less than an ideal
compassionate dairy, a model to hold up to the world.
We have recently been offered 52 acres of land at peppercorn rent in Leicestershire. This gives us the opportunity to really demonstrate our vision ... all we need to do now is put up the infrastructure. This is where we need your help.
Help us make this vision a reality. Become an Ahimsa sponsor.
Contributors will help us build a secure foundation on which to further our revolution in compassionate dairy farming.

What We Need & What You Get
![]()
To to turn our vision into reality, to take our protection of cows to the next level, we need your help to raise the £80,000 required to build the barns, shelters, and dairy.
Compare this to the MILLIONS of calves, cows and bulls
slaughtered every year, and the BILLIONS of pounds generated by this mass
slaughter. £80,000, in contrast, is just a drop in the bucket to start a
revolution in the protection of cows.

PHASE 1: Our initial goal is to raise £30,000 via Indiegogo
This will go towards:
- Main barn for cows
- Calving barn for newborns and mothers
- Strong fence for enclosure
- Dairy measuring instruments
- Growing polytunnel
[PHASE 2 - we hope to raise another £50,000 towards further barns, dairy equipment and utilities]
- Every penny we get will go towards improving the facility for our cows even if we do not reach our goal.
There will be some unique gifts made from slaughter-free milk which cannot be obtained from anywhere else in the UK or Europe such as:
- Ahimsa Delights
- Love Milk Hate Slaughter cow Tshirts
- Basket of our slaughter-free products
- A wheel of Ahimsa Farm Semi-Hard Cheese and
- A limited edition of some beautiful cow prints

One of our partners - a charity called The Lotus Trust - has kindly agreed to accept donations on our behalf for this campaign so that we can also receive the benefit of Gift Aid. All donations will be directed through The Lotus Trust.
We want to create a sustainable, compassionate dairy at the heart of every community we and our cows serve. We want to work in harmony with nature and not against her as so much modern industrial farming does.
Cattle and humankind have worked in partnership for 10,000 years and for generations cows have been regarded as symbols of gentleness and abundance. Yet today millions of cows are seen as nothing more than a means to make profit rather than sentient beings. They are literally milked to death, their natural foraging instincts denied through zero grazing and their intimate family relationships with their calves and other cattle disrupted and destroyed. Our dairy system is completely different because we let cows live out their full lives, we treat them as individuals and respond to their needs.
From a starting point of zero with no capital we set up the Ahimsa Dairy Foundation from scratch. We now deliver to 100+ customers and have 25 + cows and young bulls. Every one of our cows has a name and a close relationship with us. They get brushed regularly, fed carrots and have plenty of fuss and attention. We sell organic non-homogenised milk, ghee, cheese and yoghurt and want to branch into other items too.

Risks & Challenges
When we first started out established farmers said our approach would never work and poo-pooed our plans. Bit by bit we knocked their objections down and got them on side. Eventually the UK’s top supplier of organic milk agreed to help us by putting us in touch with an established organic farm.
We never give up, we are flexible and are willing to try innovative ways. We also think no pain, no gain, but the goal of slaughter-free, compassionate dairy farming is worth every sleepless night – or night spent out delivering milk before dawn.
If we do not reach our target, the future of dairy farming will stay the same i.e. based on slaughter.
It would be fantastic if you would support our campaign by spreading the word among your family and friends – on Twitter
@ahimsamilk#lovemilkhateslaughter and on Facebook
ahimsahappyhealthycows and at your community centres - please use the Indiegogo share tools.
We are also beginning to compile a list for future farms (and herdsmen/farmers), if you know of anyone who wishes to gift land or is happy to lease land for this cause, do let us know.
Please be part of the revolution to end the system where cows are regarded as objects to be profited from.
Thank you for all your support.
