Short Summary
I grew up in Newfoundland as a child to my teens. I’ve always loved the stories told in Newfoundland, especially the old folk tales. Growing up there, I used to partake in the Mummering tradition, and naturally, people always knew who I was. I’m South Asian so…yeah. I loved the tradition, and in a way, I love how “safe” it felt. Living in a small town, I felt very safe, especially coming from South Africa. I loved the idea of how people can come in/out of your home and have a good time. In fact, only after moving out to the mainland (I’m gonna call it just that), people told me that it was “creepy”. I did some research and found out that a murder had taken place back in 1860, that involved a group of Mummers.” So, I thought to myself “Well, damn.” Newfoundland is one the most beautiful places in the world. I wanted to make something that isn’t just “scary”, but eerily beautiful. I want to take the home invasion genre and turn it up a notch. All this can be achieved, but we need your help!
Lovely Mummers follows the journey of a Father, Daryl, who had a very different childhood. He lives with his wife and daughter in the small town of Twillingate. The story takes place during Christmas, which means, during the 12 days of Christmas, you might encounter some Mummers. Costumed folk dressed in household materials, who enter houses and often do a variety of informal performances that may include dance, music, jokes, or recitations. The hosts must guess the mummers’ identities before offering them food or drink. Daryl’s daughter, Vanessa, goes out to get some birch for the fireplace, but does not return. Daryl goes out to find her, but encounters something off, especially with his community. The rest, well, you gotta wait for the film.

The Impact
- This film will not only be a fun project for Newfoundland, but something people on a Global scale can experience. Canada has SO many stories to tell, and we need to bring more of these stories to screen.
- We were accepted into the Calgary International Film Festival in 2014, with a low budget feature film we self funded. At the time, we wanted to make the film for practice, so if we were to ever get more funding, we can use every penny to it's fullest, and really polish our craft.

Risks & Challenges
Throughout my many years of filmmaking, I've come to an understanding that one must be prepared for the risks and challenges that come along. Once you've created something and it's out there, then what?!!? This is why it is essential to have a strong team of individuals with various skillsets in order to mitigate as much risk as possible and take your film to the next level!
Our team at Rendering Glint Films has a great understanding of our strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize efficiency and do what we love!
Bhaveek Makan is a Writer/Director, the guy who can tell stories, and bring it to screen. His technical skills aren't the greatest, but that is why his brother, Jashan Makan, is around.
Jashan Makan is all things tech. Since he is the silent type, he usually stays behind the camera. He has a fantastic eye, which brings his cinematography skills to the forefront. Not only is he fantastic behind the camera, but is able to do things such as editing, color grading, and VFX.
Since Bhaveek and Jashan are focused on those elements, they sometimes get confused with Math. That means all the budgeting, paperwork and the guy who makes sure we are all doing our part, is Sumeet Kumar.
We then have Pooja Patel, who is all things costume, production design and everything in the Arts department. Pooja has extensive knowledge in Fashion and aesthetics, that can tell a story on a visual level.
Lastly, we always need another hand on set, especially when doing large extensive sequences. Bhavesh Chauhan is the man for that. Bhavesh also handles Graphics work, scheduling, and any assistance in editing and directing.
