In September I'm moving to Los Angeles, mostly based on intuition. But you know, in my defense that's exactly how I moved to Philadelphia in 2012 and look how much I loved it here.
The pandemic squeezed my life with a vengeance and at a certain point I surrendered to the squeeze and wondered mid contraction what my life would look like after. I didn't go the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I stopped performing my solo show. I started teaching online zooms for artists to write about their lives. I asked them to tell me stories of being naughty as children and fell in love with it all.
And now I'm moving to LA with a very good feeling about working with some artists there who are exploring film, mortality and lust for the insanity of life.
My plan is to grow my writing workshops into a dependable business. I want to teach writing workshops about life and writing workshops about death and design Process Mother curriculums for artists of all kinds to make the work that their heart is crying to make.
I have a little hatchback Honda. I've never been attached to material possessions much. The one silk blouse I own was recently burned by a subletter. My plan is to purge, gift and sell almost everything I own and then on September 1st pack my little self into my little car and drive all the way into my trembling hopeful future.
The problem is I have some large paintings. All of them self-portraits. Because during the driest, loneliest, most binge watching days of my quarantine I turned to painting to fill the hours.
But fine, I thought: what if people bought my paintings then I would have some relocation funds and less stuff in my car.
That's where you come in.
I am selling small and large paintings. Some are on stretched canvas. Some are on paper. Most are acrylic, some are oil. None are framed.
I'm only doing local delivery and pick up. That means you Philadelphia! Because honestly I always forget to ship to people.
We can schedule a pick-up or drop-off time that works for you or you can come to my Pick-Up Party (date TBA).
Please read the measurements carefully so you're not surprised by the dimensions.
And email me if you would like a full image before buying (all the perk images were automatically cropped): magdawkshp@gmail.com.
Do you know anyone in LA? Connect me! I'm going to need a lot of new friends because I love talking a lot and I need to spread it out. I don't know many people there yet. If you know an artist or a freaky genius please introduce me!
