Short Summary
Hey everybody! My name is Mekka Don and I am a hip-hop artist/songwriter originally from Columbus, OH. I've always been passionate about music, but I come from a family who stressed the importance of education. As a result, I finished law school and worked as a lawyer before finally deciding to take the (crazy) leap to pursue my true passion.
Since I made that decision, things have gone pretty well but the road has been rocky! I've been recognized by MTV, XXL, The Source, ESPN, Ohio State, and others but we've functioned with NO investors and no major label backing. This is an expensive business.
Although we've been able to produce some music, we've never been able to put out a full album. After all of these years, "The Dream Goes On" will be my debut album! The (10 track) album is so important to me because it chronicles my story but also speaks for anyone who is trying to pursue their dream. My success is your success and we all can make it...but we'll never know if we never try!
The production and promotion of an album is so expensive. From the actual production of the music, copies of CDs, production of music videos, event planning, marketing and public relations, and radio promotion, the expenses to cover the cost of an album can be well into six figures (sometimes seven).
Although this campaign will not raise the entire amount needed, it will go a long way in helping us achieve the goal of releasing my debut album successfully. Without your support we will not be able to do it.
THE DREAM GOES ON!
What We Need & What You Get
For this campaign we are looking to raise $12,500. As I mentioned earlier, the release of an album can cost well into six figures. Specifically we will use the funds for the physical production of CDs, production of 2-3 music videos, marketing and public relations for the project, and for the execution of release events. Your support is so necessary.
We have so many cool perks in exchange for your support. You will see packages that include autographed CDs, autographed pictures, Pilot Boys tee shirts, Pilot Boys hoodies, Juice tee shirts, Fydelity bags, 'Grime and Glory' books, phone calls, Skype calls, autographed posters, social media follows, as well as Guestlist options. Check it out!
The Impact
To date, we've had some success with having two music videos on MTV networks, music on ESPN, radio spins, major interviews and blog features, and performances in front of major crowds. However, we believe this album is the culmination of everything we've done to get to this point. It tells a story that we all can relate to. Everyone has a passion...everyone has a dream. If I can make it, we call can make it! I haven't made it yet though :)
Other Ways You Can Help
We understand that some of you may not be able to contribute, but that doesn't mean you cannot still help! Spreading the word about this campaign and about the album itself is also very important. Either way, please share with your network and feel free to use the Indiegogo share tools.
