Overview
A dramedy set in the 90's that deals with family issues, alcoholism, and the potential end of the world... all with a killer a soundtrack. After making a feature film for $7000, we're now attempting to make something even bigger and more personal that speaks to anyone who has ever felt isolated and directionless but knows that good friends and a great soundtrack will get you through anything.

Short Summary

I am a first generation Mexican-American filmmaker and I've been incredibly fortunate that I've been able to make films for the past 9 years.  From creating music videos for amazing bands (Sleigh Bells, Red Light Cameras) to commercials (Adobe, Wal-Mart) to being featured on the Robert Rodriguez produced documentary television series REBEL WITHOUT A CREW, filmmaking is an essential part of who am I.

MILLENNIUM BUGS is the strongest script I've ever written and the culmination of my filmmaking career so far.  Making movies is a collaborative experience and this is why I'm reaching out to all of you lovers of indie film to help make this a reality.  This project is my largest endeavor but with the team I've assembled, I know that I can bring this film from vision to reality.

What We Need & What You Get

MILLENNIUM BUGS is set in the late 90's and it's imperative to be true to the spirit and look of the time.  Our $50K Budget will help to ensure we can secure a killer soundtrack and create a look and aesthetic that drops our audience right into the final days of 1999.

Of course, we want to give back to everyone who is generous enough to donate.  From perks such as a movie credit and social media love to limited edition art, t-shirts, and consultations with the director, we're trying to provide a unique experience for our donors.

The Impact

With each film I've made, I've grown tremendously as a filmmaker. From screening at SXSW, SOHO, Raindance, and Cannes to sitting across the desk from Robert Rodriguez, I feel my film resume should give any potential back the confidence that my team and I will bring this film to the finish line.  I've made a feature film for $7000.... just imagine what will happen with a budget 5 times as large.

I feel like this project will speak to anyone who has ever felt lost or directionless.  This story tells how even the most broken people can bring themselves up with a good friend and even better music.

Risks & Challenges

A film set is rife with obstacles and I've seen pretty much all of them.  The secret is working with people who's strengths complement your weaknesses. We already have actors, music, and locations in place... we just need financing in order to secure rights and pay the our very talented cast and crew.

Your contribution will go towards:

·    Filmmaking Equipment (Cameras, Lights, Sound equipment, Props, etc.)

·    Crafty and Meals for the cast and crew for our shoot.

·    Talent and crew day discounted rates. (The amazing cast and crew have agreed to work for less than used to day rates to make this project happen)

·    Locations: In order to bring the world of this film to life we need locations such as houses, comedy and video stores (remember those?) and many more. One location is so perfect we have to go to Austin, TX for a 2-day shoot.

.  The soundtrack:  I firmly stand by that music is one of the KEY elements to a film. Working with an amazing music supervisor, Charles Newman, we will be able to get an amazing soundtrack that will serve as a time machine to some of the best sounds, genres, and music made in the '90s.

His relationship with the region has deeply influenced the style and outlook of his work.  From the time he was a young painter he was inspired by the art work of Fredrick Remington and CM Russell .  As a cinematographer, he fell in love with the noir tones of post war America. In his work, he has always sought to capture the grandness of the west blended with the bleak darkness of a  noir city world.

Today, as a director of photography, he always looks for new and challenging projects to which he can bring his long hewn aesthetic. Recent projects of interest include the noir young adult show, Tagged,  the feature film Will Gardner , starring Max Martini, Omari Hardwick, Gary Sinise and Lily Rabe and the feature film Chance, starring Matthew Modine.

Also Mr. Gaitirira is a team player and works well under pressure.

He and his wife, Diana Gaitirira, created an independent production company in 2010. Since then his team has produced and co-produced a combination of TV shows, award-winning short films, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), and are currently working on a few feature films.

Ryan Halsey (Associate Producer/Gaffer) - Ryan Halsey’s passion in life is film production, and participating in the artful crafts of cinematography and lighting design.  Growing up playing with parents video cameras, Ryan’s first venture into filmmaking started with home movies crewed and starring friends back in middle and high school.  After graduating from the University of North Texas with a bachelors degree in Radio, Television, and, Film, Ryan became a professional editor, excelling at Adobe, Final Cut, and Avid systems.

Having a desire to learn the art of cinematography, Ryan enrolled in the Vancouver Film School of British Columbia.  Here he first met Alejandro Montoya and together they would collaborate on numerous projects and together venture to Albuquerque, New Mexico to tackle the emerging/up and coming film market.  While in New Mexico Ryan worked his way up to being the General Manager of the largest local Grip & Lighting Rental house (Serious Grippage & Light) which became an integral tool in facilitating the creation of content.

In addition to freelance projects and opportunities Ryan became an educator for Grip and Lighting classes and workshops, as well as other film theory focuses at schools in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Ryan maintains strong relationships with the film community, vendors, film office, and institutions by having a true love for hard work and building strong collaborations with dedicated and passionate filmmakers.

Charles Newman (Music Supervisor/Composer) - Having worked on film projects for over two decades now, Newman started his foray into film music with one of his first song placements in the cult classic film Empire Records, when his band PLEASE worked with Talking Head / producer Jerry Harrison and mixer Tom Lord-Alge on their song "Here it Comes Again landing them in the film and on the platinum selling soundtrack.  From there he went on to supply music as a composer, producer and work as a music editor on any array of projects, as his label Mother West began to amass a catalog of indie artists and represent other composers and producers. Recently Newman has scored an array of award winning documentaries and recently music supervised projects that include "All These Small Moments" starring Molly Ringwald, Jemima Kirke and Brian James D'Arcy, and the feature film "Monday" for Robert Rodriguez's "Rebel Without a Crew Project" and TV series.
