What The Book is About:
Although the title of this book is a powerful message, it contains a collection of short stories which are softened by morals, ethics and values. A young Indian girl shares her views on the love and concern she has for her homeland an tribal life.
These stories are based on the true Blackfeet culture, creation story, ancient spiritual values and social life. Fracking is only lightly touched on at the end of each story.
Lets face it, fracking is not a pretty subject so I felt it was important to add colorful illistrations to each story. A local Blackfeet artist is working on some beautiful illistrations for each page. These drawings portray an original way of native life and will draw the readers attention to what the story is about.
This book is designed to attact the attention of 6th graders up to adult.
Why is this Important:
The Blackfeet Nation sits on one of the most beautiful places on Mother Earth. From wide open praries, rolling hills and snow capped mountains, our tribe has called this place home for many thousands of years. Our entire being as a tribe is emmersed in the values of the waters, air and soil and all life upon Earth. This story is told by a young girl, there is no one better to get the point across than through the eyes of a child.
The Blackfeet Nation sits at the base of the Rocky Mountain front, which is the headwaters for major waterways that serve several towns, cities, including Canada. Life for thousands of miles around depend on these pure nutrient rich waters for survival.
I feel the stories and illistrations in this book are vital information in making a significant statement to our own Blackfeet people. They will educate our people on the dangers of fracking. Therefore they will be more inclined to inform the tribal council who can determine whether there should be a moritorium or ban put on the hydraulic fracturing (fracking).
Fracking came up on us so fast that no one knew what it was and most people still don't. Through my efforts I am trying to bring awareness and try to ban fracking.
What have I done:
I have sit up meetings and shared brochures and articles on the fracking process. I hung anti-fracking banners all over in our community. In August of this year I created a 80 mile 6 day walk, (Chief Mountain Water Walk) along the mountain front to pray, sing our water song and give offerings of sacred tobacco to each water way we came to. Nearly 14 others joined me.
This walk drew attention from the New York times to the Seattle Post and media around the world, however my focus was to try and bring attention to my own community and tribe. So far I have provided all of the funds to take a stand against fracking and today I cannot move forward without asking for help in financing this book. I continue to search for ways to stop the loss of our beautiful homeland and this book is my next step.
Why Do I Care:
I care about the life of future generations and the drinking water of grandchildren that I may never meet. I care about the this priceless piece of land that is so important to the Creation Story of our people. I care deeply for aspects of a ancient culture that may be lost in the midst of moneary ideas and greed.
I believe this will be a good way to bring attention to the fracking as well as an avenue for spiritual healing. We need it after all of the heartbreak and stress this venture endures.
My Drive
I am excited about this book it has been very healing for me to write and I thank you for being a part of my story.I have decided to publish this book through self-publishing, (Outskirts Press) because time is of the essence.Today the fracking is quickly invading our piece of the Earth.
My plan is that with funding help I can have this book ready to publish by March 1st, 2013. The amount of money I am asking for is $8,000 in order to make it a unique book that will also be an inovative way in bringing awareness to the people who have the power to ban fracking.
If there is any additional funding from the book, it will be used for the 2013 Chief Mountain Water Walk. We are all in this together, so everyone world wide is invited to join us on our spiritual walk to honor, bless and protect all waters.
