Langtang
valley is situated about 50 km north of Kathmandu and was hit particularly hard by
the devastating recent earthquake in Nepal. The whole village of
Langtang, the oldest and most traditional village in the valley, was buried by an avalanche of ice and rocks triggered by the earthquake.

What We Raise Money For
Rescue
is running and emergency plans are being set up. But the valley and Langtang
village particularly will suffer for a long time and will need rebuilding
support after the first weeks have passed. People have lost family members,
their homes and the base of their income. After first medical care has
been delivered it will take large efforts to re-establish community life back in
the valley.
We
are raising money for the remaining local people to help them cleaning the area
around the village from debris and to support them in rebuilding their community
houses and infrastructure.

Who We Are & What We Do
We are a group of scientists and former scientists from ETH Zurich, Switzerland (facebook, mountainhydrology). We study how
glaciers respond to a changing climate and started working in Langtang valley in
2012 together with ICIMOD. To better understand past glacier and water changes in the valley we soon
started collecting the knowledge of the local people. We combined pure scientific
research with community work by involving them in the measurements and
setting up a ‘Glacier Documentation Center’ run by the Langtang Women’s Association.

Research work on Lirung Glacier and upper Langtang Valley and inauguration ceremony of the Glacier Documentation Center
We developed a strong connection to the valley and care for the people living there. We feel the urge to help rebuilding the valleys infrastructure and the people of this beautiful valley.
What You Get
Besides
putting together the photographic content for the documentation center, beautiful pictures
of the Langtang valley were taken by photographer Eduardo Soteras. They were sold in the documentation center and will be used now for postcards and fine art
prints to raise money. The raised money will go through the community institutions of the National Park and the Women's Association directly to the people of Langtang.
This will guarantee that the funding is equitably distributed. We will post updates about funds allocation on our facebook page to ensure transparency. Help efforts will be coordinated with our partner organization ICIMOD with whom we have been working closely together in the past years to conduct and disseminate research. Please help us raising money to rebuild Langtang village
life by buying the artwork.
