Short Summary
Many people, including working families with children, retired seniors and individuals struggling to make ends meet cannot:
- get to a grocery store that is within a mile from their home
- buy fresh, local and healthy food at fair market prices
Also, many men living at the Good Samaritan Shelter have a difficult time finding employment and earning a living wage.
Nourish Phoenixville can change all of that.
Nourish Phoenixville is a mobile market that makes fresh, healthy and locally grown and produced foods available to everyone in our community. Nourish Phoenixville makes it easy for people to eat fresh and local by meeting them where they are - at work, at school, at play and wherever they find health and spiritual wellness.
Nourish Phoenixville will hire shelter residents to work in the business. These men will realize an increase in their self confidence as they learn valuable job skills and earn a living wage.
Nourish Phoenixville encourages people to "eat well and do good" by reinvesting in our local economy and helping Good Samaritan Shelter fulfill its mission to provide hope and dignity to men experiencing homelessness.
What We Need
We are seeking to raise $15,000 to help with the purchase of the truck, trailer and refrigeration units.
The Impact
Nourish Phoenixville will increase access to fresh, healthy and local foods for all Phoenixville area residents, especially those living in food deserts or who are homebound.
Nourish Phoenixville will provide men experiencing homelessness with a wage-earning job, work experience and a pathway to financial stability.
Nourish Phoenixville will contribute to local economic development, community health and wellness and our region’s environmental sustainability.
Nourish Phoenixville will demonstrate that nonprofit organizations can become more entrepreneurial and generate mission-related income to offset reliance on charitable contributions.
Risks & Challenges
Nourish Phoenixville has a professional business plan and is seeking capital for start-up costs. Like any social or business enterprise, the start-up phase is not predictable and success is not a guarantee. However, we will direct whatever funds we raise to launch the enterprise, even in incremental steps.
