The "trans" national fencing team arrive at practice, only to find their studio destroyed. This clear sabotage starts to mess with Heath's mind - the team's coach - as they start to question their ability to protect their team. Our rookie queer Gi, firey Capricorn Aster, and seasoned stoic fencer Liam go off to competition without Heath and it becomes ever more clear that sports are never easy when your trans. Liam attempts to talk to Heath in a last effort to reunite the team - but it's hard to get anything done without Liam's lucky shoes.
This story is about community spaces, chosen families, and the lengths we go to, to make spaces for our selves as trans people. Parry Riposte uses a sports backdrop to pay homage to our gender-bending-sports-film inspirations; Bring it on, Girlfight, and Bend it Like Beckham - while calling attention to the way sports reinforces the gender binary and transphobic practices.

The production of Parry Riposte is the product of years of body policing experiences, a bunch of student loans, and the buckets of elbow grease put in by an exceptional cast and crew of trans people supported by dedicated allies. Parry Riposte depended on it's cast of trans actors and trans crew, to tell this story authentically.
Of the crew, 80% identified as Women, Two-spirit, Trans, GNC, and Non-binary but there is a reason why you rarely hear about trans filmmakers - because we are actively excluded from mainstream stories and spaces. Trans people in film deserve better.
Trans filmmaking in North America is under supported, underfunded, misrepresented by cis-people and co-opted for trans trauma porn. We want to create narratives that are for and by trans people that cis-audiences can learn from. GLADD did an investigation into the stats of filmmaking and trans people and they found, “There were zero transgender-inclusive films from the major studios in 2017.” And not much growth has been made since. WE NEED TO SUPPORT MORE TRANS FILMMAKING.

I know its hard to believe, but this film is made entirely by students! We had to pay for it by bussing tables, eating ramen noodles, and pinching pennies like you have never seen. Making art that the cis community can’t deny and trying to make space as trans people in the industry through flawless and risk-taking films can get expensive.
Our budget is a total of $15,000.00 but we will be only funding 66% on indiegogo because we received early and warm support through The Ryan Churchill Foundation, LIFT, Ryerson Fencing, and Goldbloom’s rainy day money fund.
The funds we receive here will cover the cost of developing the film and the special 35mm, our art department costs for the 90’s period look, and - because we are about the comfort and safety of my cast and crew - transpiration, craft, and location rentals. Without these things - there would be no film - so we need you to help us make it happen! ![]()
