Please join with The Palm Springs Air Museum in bringing history to life and restoring to fly again, our United States Navy PBY Catalina. The "flying boat" that served as a patrol bomber and search and rescue from World War II through the 1980's.
The Palm Springs Air Museum is one of the finest and most respected Air Museums in the world. For over twenty years bringing history alive with not only a wonderful collection of aircraft but also with 400 volunteers, some who have stood on the beaches of Guadalcanal during World War II to those who have flown to the edges of Outer Space.
You will be part of the legacy of bringing history to the generations who remember this aircraft with respect and also to the generations who follow. Our youth will see and experience first hand the excitement of aviation that perhaps they only briefly read about in school.
We are totally committed to this restoration and your help will be going entirely to offset the expenses of this commitment. A long term project, this will be among our continuing fundraising. It is funded by the Palm Springs Air Museum which is a non-profit organization (Tax ID 33-0615350) and your participation helps greatly in allowing the Museum to continue it's core mission of bringing history and pride to the public it serves.
Some of the staffing of this is being done by volunteers who are taking on this project with incredible enthusiasm. However an aircraft being restored to flying condition requires professional aircraft mechanics doing most of the work. And sadly enthusiasm alone will not pay for the tremendous expense of a project of this magnitude. So we really need you to be a part of our Team!
So here comes the fun stuff! No question that the most sought after will be our PBY Catalina T-Shirt designed by world famous aviation artist Stan Stokes! The extraordinary and beautiful photo book by Hans Wiesman "80 Years, A Tribute the the PBY Catalina" will keep you in awe turning it's pages over and over. Very fun Instax cameras graciously provided by Fujifilm are also yours to have.
All monies raised will go to the project whether less or more than our goal. Your help means so much more too! It helps the Palm Springs Air Museum bring the history and excitement of aviation to groups of school children who visit during the year. It gives the Museum the ability to bring education and actual flying demonstrations on a weekly basis to our visitors and community. It allows the Museum to honor our Veterans by providing free entrance to them and their families and being a part of special programs. Your help from a little to a lot is very far reaching!
The Palm Springs Air Museum has built itself by accomplishing and meeting many goals. Recently completed is our Cold War Hangar dedicated to Major General Kenneth P. Miles. A modern 20,000 sq. ft. facility that we funded and built entirely from private donations! Then there is our recently completed Norman Lawrence Sirota D-Day Gliders Exhibit with an actual rebuild of one of the many ill-fated D-Day Gliders. Again all funded by the Museum from private donation. From our extensive and beautiful aircraft collection to our almost 10,000 volume library, the Palm Springs Air Museum is a testament to the responsible use of privately donated funding and now stands at almost 100,000 sq. ft.
