Peckham Festival is a hyper-local event with a single aim of celebrating creative and cultural Peckham.
Peckham is the most exciting place to be in London - over 300 years of urban evolution have made it the vibrant cultural epicentre that it is today. Unlike many parts of the capital, Peckham hasn't lost its intrinsic grit and creative intensity. Its culture is made as much by the weave salons and three-for-a-pound plantain market stalls as it is by the rooftop bars and world-renowned art scene.
ABOUT US
Created in 2016, Peckham Festival is a hyper-local event with a single aim of celebrating creative and cultural Peckham: from promoting artists, makers, creators, and community groups to helping to expand the public’s awareness of and access to culture in all its forms: from workshops, art, music, written & spoken word, performance, health and wellbeing via the numerous community groups active in the area.
We’ve helped bring cultural activity to underused public and private spaces from Railway arches to bars, whilst giving creative spaces and people the chance to showcase their work to a larger, more local audience.
In 2017 the festival attracted well over 15,000 people and supported 183 events across 65 venues; involving 38 restaurants or bars, 9 galleries, promoting 171 individual artists, 12 creative businesses across 12 artist studio complexes, and showcased 17 local musical acts and 15 non-profit community groups - all ably assisted by 68 volunteers made up of local members of the community.
Now in its second full year, Peckham Festival has taken the bold step to become a Community Interest Company (CIC) and continues to be 100% not for profit and free to the public.
Company Number 11206351.
As this compelling place we all call home continues to evolve, Peckham Festival is a rare opportunity to celebrate the area and what it has become and, more importantly, where it’s going.
Join us at the third annual festival will take place between 14-16 September 2018 - but we need your help to make this year's event possible.
WHY DO WE NEED TO CROWDFUND?
As part of our ongoing commitment to deliver a *FREE* Peckham Festival ensuring it is truly a community event open to all, we have spent the last 6 months talking to the larger businesses in Peckham to financially support the event.
Sadly, having not reached the desired target required to sustain the level of activity achieved last year, we are now looking to the people of Peckham to help us make it happen!
WHAT WE'D DO WITH THE MONEY
If we managed to raise £20,000, this would cover the cost of the following:
• Printing of the brochure: 10,000 copies
• Signage and wayfinding to all of the sites
• Public Insurance
• St John’s Ambulance
• Security
• A Production Manager to oversee the technical aspects of the festival, and observe all elements that make the festival safe
• A Volunteer Manager to recruit train and manage the 80+ volunteers over the festival
Raising an additional £10k (£30,000 in total) would mean we could also afford:
• Free workshops and activities for people to enjoy
• A Main Music Stage at Copeland Park & all necessary stage requirements: Sound, Lighting, Backline
A further £10k (£40,000 in total) would mean the below would also happen:
• We can start to pay artists' performance fees
• A Public Carnival
• Create paid commissions for artists and groups to apply for
Thanks so much for your support and help us spread the word!
