Short Summary
The Salt Vine is Jen Bluhm of Minneapolis and Charles Jolly of St. Paul. We are an Indie duo embracing the heart of Folk, the finesse of Jazz, and the technique of Classical genres, while pushing ourselves into other territories of creative songwriting and arrangement. We have been playing venues all around the Twin Cities metro area for almost two years while discovering and shaping our unique sound that has best been described as 'simultaneously nostalgic and experimental'. It's quirky yet fine. The intentional weaving together of emotion and technique throughout the process of writing, sculpting, and refining our songs is our creative goal. In fact, we completely geek out on it.
We both have families and have been working out how to prioritize them as well as nurture the passion we have for writing and performing our music. It has been quite challenging at times to balance these responsibilities and passions, but it has finally led us into the studio to record our debut album, Perilous.
'Perilous' is important to us conceptually because it pays homage to the places of tension in human life and relationships. It honestly portrays through it's instrumentation, lyrics, melodies, structures, and devices the presence of two or more fundamentally conflicting ideas and/or perspectives existing in relationship with one another at the same time. It explores the complexity of the dark and the light side of relationships in beautiful, strange, humorous, and riveting ways. Putting ourselves, our art - "out there" is risky and perilous, but worth it. And . . . we dare to do it.
With your generosity and sharing of our campaign, we will be able to offer our music to people well beyond our local influence, as well as deepen our impact here in the Twin Cities. You can help us to connect with you and other music lovers across the US and internationally. You will make it possible for us to keep making art and to make this album available in a timely manner while we continue to support our loved ones. As creatives, as family people, as full-time workers, and as active community members, time is precious, and we deeply appreciate the time you've taken to consider our campaign. Please take a moment to enjoy the music video of our debut single Where the Band Shaped Your Hand in the gallery here, or on our website.
