A bit about the show:
Gifted with kisses that transform beasts into princes and band geeks into soccer stars, Helena is out to find true love. But when the close-minded people of her provincial town get wind of her ability, she must decide if finding the perfect kiss is worth being branded the town slut. “Philia" is Helena’s story, from a naive young girl who discovers she has a magical power, into a young woman who is firmly planted on the road to adulthood, self-empowerment, and balance. The show mixes “real-life” elements like high-school, stepmothers, and salons with magical realism and the fantastic. Not only is the content of this show evocative, but new theatre pieces always have the potential to affect people. We have people who'd never be able to work together collaborating. Musicians and painters, carpenters and writers. Theatre bring lots of skills and perspectives together. And the message of the show, Helena's journey, will resonate with everyone who sees it.
There are always challenges when it comes to collaborative art, or any artistic endeavor. We have taken on a very ambitious project; musicals are a lot of work! It is always a risk that we may not be able to do everything we have set out to do.
What puts us more at ease, though, are our years of experience putting up performances such as these. And the fact that we're already committed certainly helps. We have a wonderful team doing what truly drives them to succeed! All we need to make it an amazing show is your funding!
If you can't give your money, we're always looking for other kinds of help. Ushering, being a stage-hand, helping out in the booth, and volunteering with us are all great.
But the best way is to spread the word about Philia:
