ABOUT THE VINCENT FAMILY FARM
8 years ago Todd was an IT Manager in Illinois. Today, Todd and his family are operating a thriving family farm providing fresh milk, eggs, honey, seasonal produce, and a unique variety of fermented foods full of probiotic benefits. The Vincents work together as a family to provide these nutrient-dense foods to hundreds of people through their C.S.A. (Community Supported Agriculture) in Middle Tennessee.
Todd has witnessed firsthand the amazing healing properties of fresh, nutritious food, both in his own family and in dozens of other families that their C.S.A. serves. With the heart of a teacher, Todd desires to connect with other farmers across the country to share what he and his family have learned about running a successful, healthy family farm.
Why Project Farm Restore? This country is in dire need of change with regard to farming. Healthy farmers could be revolutionizing the health of the planet and the human race. But despite increasing awareness of our great need for healthy farming practices, good farms are failing at an alarming rate. This is a trend we hope to bring awareness to AND help healthy farmers stay on their land.
Why are these healthy farms failing? We believe that one of the main reasons is because the wisdom of healthy farming practices is no longer being passed down from one generation to the next. And as this ancient wisdom keeps getting lost, farmers have to waste time and resources rediscovering it all over again. This whole ordeal prevents our young farmers from being in the soil, raising animals, connecting with customers, and feeding their communities.
How fast are they failing? It's been estimated that for every one person that decides to start farming, six are quitting for various reasons. Every year we are losing around 80% of our healthy farmers!
What is your vision for farming? We want to pass down a bigger vision of why we do what we do as farmers. Providing food can't just be about the money. The vision has to include the importance of providing healthy, healing food that has the power to change both the planet and peoples' lives forever.
We want to teach people how to keep the soil healthy and show why it is a vital step for growing nutrient dense food. We also want to teach farmers how to succeed by implementing a healthy, sustainable farming model.
As more and more consumers are learning what healthy produce is, we'd like to help connect them with a local healthy farmer(s) in their area.
What are you going to do to help change this? With your support, we will launch four projects. Each project will support our goal of aiding healthy farmers who supply nutrient dense food to their communities.
PROJECT FARM RESTORE:
1. THE FILM: This full-length film will document our trips to each and every farm. Family is important to us - it's the reason we started farming in the first place - so our whole family of 15 (Todd, Kari and the kids) will make each trip together. The film will showcase our family working alongside farmers that are in need. In the film, you'll see how we evaluate and address issues that are common to many small farms in America. We will explore ways to keep the soil vibrant and nutrient-dense, all the while teaching time saving farming practices that been forgotten or lost over the years. This film will give others a look into what it takes to keep small farms going so we can have healthy food choices.
2. THE WEBSITE: We are developing a website that will provide several important features, that will help you connect with each of the healthy farms we visit and others you might not know about. We'll share our "tour schedule" of our planned farm workdays so that you can come join us as we assist farmers in your area. Our website will also have a forum for farmers to "talk shop" and share ideas, farming practices, and resources with one another. In addition, we'll have a plethora of resources such as how-to videos, articles, and recipes so that you can make the most of growing, preparing, and consuming your own nutrient dense foods.
3. FARM VISITS: Before our family makes a farm visit, we will interview each farmer to discover their greatest needs and will carefully plan a strategy to address those needs. We will then schedule a trip to their farm, where we'll roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty! We'll work alongside them to help them complete key tasks that will allow them to keep on farming. On many of these farm visits, we will invite community members to get involved, which can lead to more customer support and more success for that farmer. All of which work together to keep people farming and allow nutrient-dense food choices to stay available for all of us.
Projects may include, but are not limited to:
- -greenhouse setup
-
-irrigation
-
-planting
-
-weeding
-
-harvesting
-
-cleanup
-
-herd health
-
-fence installation
-
-marketing and selling
-
-strengthening customer involvement
-
-developing a product line
-
-implementing time saving farm practices
-
-improving the soil to keep it vibrant and nutrient-dense
4. OUR TENNESSEE FARM: There's no place like home! Our farm in Tennessee will continue its operation to produce nutrient dense foods we are known for in our community. We will also continue to be an educational farm by hosting workshops and teaching others the time-honored lost art of nutrient-dense farming.
If you are interested in visiting our farm or know a farmer that could benefit from a visit, please contact us!
Thank you for reading all this and considering joining us on our exciting journey - we hope you will join us.
Remember: Change the soil. Change the food. Change lives!
Sincerely,
Todd & Family
