Anyone who knows my family, is most likely aware that the last 2 years have been filled with hardship for my family. My father was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma cancer in early august of 2016. It was a Christmas miracle that my father entered remission after successfully receiving a stem-cell transplant, unfortunately his cancer is incurable and he will continue to battle for the rest of his life. In august of 2017, my father fell off of a ladder and hospitalized for several months suffering from a severe brain injury. Being fully sedated for many weeks and unable to breathe on his own, his survival after this tragedy was questioned. After being able to breathe on his own and arising from his unconscious state, he spent multiple months in the hospital relearning how to follow and complete commands like eating, walking, and swallowing. Though the road has been heartbreaking, he has had a miraculous yet challenging recovery which our family is astonished by. We forever remain grateful for his recovery and positivity from each other as well as our loved ones. I would like to thank everyone around me for continued support through these rough times. Rather than receiving birthday money and gifts, I would like to raise money for the American Cancer Society and Duke Hospital to support research and other families who are going through similar circumstances which cause many individuals to suffer daily. I would like to give back to those who have helped my father remain alive. Thank You.
