RUBY POP is a story about a little girl growing up too fast and a grandfather struggling to let go.
Think Little Miss Sunshine meets Wes Anderson.
Who Are We?
Ivy Chiu – The Writer /
Director
Ivy Chiu is a fourth year film student at the University of Texas. She got into movies because she loves to tell stories, create worlds, and make beautiful images. Ivy confirmed her life as a filmmaker when her friends complained that her Friday night movie choices were "boring" and "too artsy." She graduates in May and hopes to further her passions in writing, directing, and cinematography in Austin, TX. Meanwhile, you can find her on some street corner admiring how the sunlight hits a certain leaf.
Ruby Pop is her brain child,
and she is eternally grateful for all who have been feeding and caring for it with their hard work and talents.
Bri Korin – The
Producer
Bri Korin started out in the film
industry acting in Houston. As she got more involved, she wanted to further her
knowledge in all aspects of filmmaking so she moved to Austin to attend the
University of Texas. She is a senior in the film program at UT and will be
graduating in May. Currently working at a talent agency in Austin, she plans to
pursue casting, acting, and producing after graduation.
Ellen Chmielowski – The Cinematographer
Originally a self-proclaimed surrealist
painter, Ellen Chmielowski discovered the art of filmmaking as a means to
express the surreal stories that came to her as she painted. Currently
attending UT Austin for her bachelors in Film, she will be graduating this year
in hopes of pursuing an exciting indie film career that combines her passions
of Cinematography, Screenwriting, and Directing.
Marc
Morales – The Editor
The ever-growing media junkie, Marc
Morales adds Filmmaking to his artistic repertoire upon his acceptance into the
Radio-Television-Film department at UT. Ever since kindergarten, he’s been
creating graphic art, music, and nerdy comic strips with his friends. Marc’s been
using Photoshop and editing systems since he began middle school, making weird
music videos. Now he is developing a craft in screenwriting, cinematography,
and acting. Currently in the process, Marc strives to master his editing
ninjutsu in his latest collaboration, Ruby Pop!
What Your Funding Goes Toward
ACTORS – We want to pay our stellar cast for lending us their face and bringing the characters to life!
FOOD – We have a hardworking crew that needs to eat two meals a day, every day of production! Or else they'll die. And that will be a very different movie.
EQUIPMENT – We need the right tools to tell this story. That means renting lenses, buying batteries, lighting equipment.
PRODUCTION DESIGN – Ruby lives in a whimsical world, which we need to build through interior design and props. This includes renting out suitable houses to film in.
FESTIVALS – We hope to submit to festivals to share the film with as many audiences as possible. Fees add up!

RISKS & CHALLENGES
A large portion of filmmaking is being resourceful and working with what you have. We are borrowing and thrifting as much as we can for production design and most of our equipment is coming from UT's Radio-Television-Film department. We've each put in some pocket money to fund this project, but unfortunately we are college students who do not have the financial means to fully fund our artistic vision. We will be charging our credit cards in the meantime so the biggest uncertainty we now face is securing the funds to make this film. We have been working very hard in preproduction since January and are set to film late March. With your help, we can make this film a reality!
