Hi everyone! My name is Natalie Hazelden and I originally come from a small town called Thundersley located not too far from Southend-on-Sea. I have been studying Film and Moving Image at Norwich University of the Arts for coming up to 3 years. This campaign is designed to spread the word about my project and to raise money for production. To make it a success, I need your help! This documentary film stars people with a big influence from around the area of which I grew up, it's also a tribute to my home town (Salvo and I both live in Thundersley). Your money allows me to get the highest value of production I can achieve. It will help pay for transport, (i.e Getting around Norwich, Southend and London), for cast and crew, It will also help cover cost of paying everyone who is a part of the film, permissions for archive footage, props, catering and overall general cost for production.
The film is planned to follow a 'Day in the Life' of Salvo. First I will film at his home, showing his everyday routines, including making a sponge cake, of which he does regularly for various people and events. He will then continue to meet friend of 23 years, Simon Foxen ; a local barber in Thundersley Village where Simon gives Salvo a Haircut. I show them together having a good laugh and showing the friendship between them. Salvo is then presented back at home, putting on his clown outfit and applying his clown makeup. We then travel to Southend on the bus, showing his normal commute. Followed by some more footage of Salvo performing on the high street, greeting young ones with his free balloons.
Throughout all these shots, Salvo will be narrating his life over the top, tying into what we see on screen. You will also see some exciting footage of the Grimaldi Service. An annual service in which around 60 clowns, dressed in full costume, gather to honour the king of the clowns, Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837), which will take place in the All Saints Church in Haggerston. , This film will not only explore Salvo, but also explore the topic of popularity of clowns and the difference in opinion from the past and now. The film will also feature some wonderful archive footage that Salvo has given me to use, including BBC Songs of Praise & ITV's Highway with Harry Seacombe . Overall the film gives a sense of how times have changed for Salvo, how his work has progressed over the years, and what he plans to do with his future.
Below are the storyboards I have created to give a visual insight for production planning.

If I don't reach my goal, the money I will have raised will be extremely helpful and I will be very grateful, Every penny will help me with production! If I do manage to raise more than cost of production, anything over this will go towards Salvo's Charity of choice: Muscular Dystrophy UK (http://www.musculardystrophyuk.org/) Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity that supports the 70,000 people currently living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. They bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions.
I decided to do this as a reflection of Salvo's kind gestures throughout his life. The film is designed to be a legacy for Salvo, looking good and doing good!
