THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT

When Sam Winstead, a World WarII combat veteran gets a concerning letter from his grandson fighting in Iraq, Sam decides to ride his bicycle from NC to speak peace to congress with no way of knowing his ride would inspire a grassroots movement to shape a peace economy.

Below is the cost of a war economy.  We challenge people around the world to demand the benefits of a peace economy.  For years, we’ve gone to congressmen; now, we challenge them to come to us and tell us if they really think the cost of war, is greater than the benefit of peace.

Can you keep up with a 90 year old World War II Combat Veteran?

“Grandaddy, I am so distressed. The people don’t won’t us here.  We don’t want to be here.  We are tearing this country apart!” -a letter from Iraq to Sam Winstead

Since reading his grandson’s words, Sam has taken his personal message of peace on bicycle from Raleigh to congress 3 times.

This year, Sam turns 90 and now it is time for his message to become not only a movement, but a challenge. “In 1945, we were camped on the Northern Tip of Okinawa waiting for the ship that would bring me home to the land of freedom and

Harmony.  Our guns had silenced all the evil forces and I knew wars would be history.  In 2014, I must concede that I had it all wrong,” says Sam.

My name is Ahmed F. Selim, co-founder of FiLMS for World Peace and director of this documentary.  I chose to make this film because not only does Sam's grit and character at 90 inspire me, but his core message and yearning carries an opportunity to build a community whose story we don't want to tell for the community, but we want to tell the story with the community.  That's why we have partnered with Sam and his team to make this film of a simple moment in time when he, his great grandson Aden, George Ripley and a small band of Veterans for Peace find a truth greater than themselves--that this yearning for a peace economy is shared in the hearts of many and it is our right as citizens of the world to call on our government to diligently make peace prosperous.

Through this partnership, FiLMS for World Peace is committing to use this film to transform Sam's small ride into a movement informing and inspiring a younger generation of peacemakers while challenging members of congress to meet us at Arlington National Cemetery as we deliver the People's Call for a Peace Economy at the climax of the upcoming bike ride in 2015.

This film campaign will serve as a springboard to recruit, organize, and build this community around Sam's 2015 Ride for Peace.

15% of the money raised to produce this film will be donated directly to the Sam's Ride for Peace to assist in the logistics and planning of the upcoming ride:  Our team includes: KD Kidder, photographer and a life-long activist who participated in the Great March on Washington from California and went on to protest nuclear weapons in by marching in Moscow http://www.photowork.net.  George Ripley who carries his grassroots American Flag from Raleigh to DC on bike in support of free and fair elections while campaigning for peace.  John Heuer a national board member of Veterans for Peace and President of the Eisenhower Chapter of the North Carolina Veterans for Peace http://www.ncveteransforpeace.org  http://www.veteransforpeace.org .  And Mansur Safdari  an Irani peace activist who recently completed a bike ride from Iran to China http://adudeonbike.blogspot.com .
