Santos Football club: Appeal for funding
To Whom it May Concern
I am the owner of a Zimbabwean business called Quality Foods that sells inexpensive high protein foods at wholesale prices. In order to give back to the community, Quality Foods supports a local youth soccer club called Santos FC, comprising of 3 teams, Under14, Under16 and Under18's. The boys in this club come from Nkulumane Township - one of the most underprivileged areas in the entire world. Due to the downfall of the Zimbabwean economy, they face daily struggles of hunger, lack of education, and a myriad of health challenges.
Santos FC has become an important source of joy and social support for the boys, building their self-esteem and sense of worth. The hours they spend on the dusty soccer pitch allow them an important escape, and the pride of wearing the Santos FC jersey lifts their spirit and helps them forget about their troubles. I’ve been supporting the club for the past 3 years, and I am always blown away by the joy I see in the players’ faces at every match and training session. The team’s Coaches generously donate their time and serve as important role models and mentors.
Unfortunately, the nearly impossible business environment in Zimbabwe has caught up with Quality Foods and I am unable to contribute the resources I once did toward supporting the club. I am therefore requesting support from the global soccer community to keep Santos alive. Your generous donation of any amount will be used to cover:
- Club registration, affiliation and referee fees $900
- Transportation to away matches $500
- Uniforms, Balls, Shoes $400
- School fees for 5 of my most needy players $500
- A small stipend for the Coaches who coach for free due to their love of the game $200
In return for your donation, you will become a member of the Santos FC supporters club. We’ll email you regular match reports, photos of the team, and stories about the players. You’ll be able to watch the boys grow up and get a better shot at life and know that you played a part in their success. At Santos FC, we’re not looking to create the next Ronaldo. We’re just trying to stay alive and be happy. Although, you never know where the next Peter Ndlovu will come from…..
