Summary
The purpose of the Yes on M Open Space Access initiative is to maintain access to 540 acres of popular public recreation areas and focus positive development on the urbanized footprint of former Fort Ord (near Monterey, California).
This piece of land includes more than 50,000 beautiful California coast live oak trees.
Our goal is to stop big-money developers who want to defeat this initiative and over-ride the base reuse plan to allow a horse race track on Fort Ord. Their plan will devastate this natural area and have other harmful environmental and social consequences.
-
Who are we? We are a group of citizen activists who want to preserve this important piece of land in Monterey County.
-
What have we already done? We successfully put this initiative on the ballot, and now it's up for vote in the Nov 5 election.
-
Why do we need your help? We're up against big-money developers who are trying to defeat Measure M. We need your help to fund a successful campaign and get the message across to every voter in Monterey County who values environmental conservation and positive development!

What We Need & What You Get
-
Running a successful campaign takes financial resources. We are a grassroots group and we've been volunteering hundreds of hours to help this important initiative pass. Just getting the initiative on the ballot was a huge victory! To do this the right way, we need extra help to bring on media professionals and others who can help communicate the importance of the November vote. That's where you come in!
- Our goal is to raise at least $15,000 by October 31st to pay for these campaign expenses so that we can stop the development plans for this land and save the 50,000 California live oak trees that are on it.
- We've got some great perks if you help us out with a donation to this campaign... make sure to look at the sidebar to the right.
The Impact
Even if you don't live in the Monterey area, you may know what a beautiful and rare natural setting this is. We are up against big-money developers who want to level this land and put in a horserace track as well as 1,500 residential units, hotels, a commercial center and more.
Here's the bottom line: Your donation will make the difference in this critical campaign.
Our resources are limited -- that's why we are putting out this call for help to people around the world who care for the environment and want to preserve it from reckless development. Please give us a hand!
Your contribution of any size is deeply appreciated! And if you contribute at the levels of $25, $500, or $1000, we've got some great ways to say thanks to you! See the perks in the sidebar to the right.
