Madiba Restaurant is at risk of closing.
Madiba has been a ‘Place of Love’ in Brooklyn, NY, since 1999. Resembling the spirit of a traditional South African Shebeen and honoring Nelson Mandela. We have attracted some of the most colorful people and have fostered innumerable relationships. We know that our tenure has been, in great part, due to our loyal community of customers, whom we now consider friends and family.
Madiba is more than a restaurant For 17+ years not only have we offered quintessential culture, cool vibes and awesome cuisine we have also made an impact by serving the diverse people of NYC and South Africa We created Handup to promote education, social justice, urban renewal, equal LGBT and racial rights initiatives .
We have supported:
INFINITE FAMILIES / UBUNTU EDUCATION FUND / AMANDLA DEVELOPMENT / PRATT AREA COMMUNITY COUNCIL / INTERNATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL / PS 20 CLINTON HILL SCHOOL / GAY MEN'S HEALTH PROJECT NYC / and many others.
In lieu of rising costs, increasing rent, questionable lease renewal ,an ongoing tax dispute combined with the unfortunate demise of the Madiba Harlem venture I am at risk of closing Madiba restaurant. As one can imagine the wear and tear after 17 busy years has taken its toll and Madiba is also in need of updated equipment and internal repairs. Depending on how much money is raised and the questionable said lease will determine Madibas’ future success and be a deciding factor for its location.
We know that Madiba has become your second home. We want to continue to offer the menu, experience and support that have put us on the global map. We encourage you to still come and dine with us, as any support will help to protect our future. Furthermore, we are hoping we can rely on our family and friends to recommend and consider Madiba for corporate parties and caterings during the holiday season.
Thank you for your support. No matter how large or small your contribution is greatly appreciated.
