Seattle loves coffee. Seattle loves cats. We’re putting coffee and cats together in one place.
Imagine walking into your favorite cafe. You get a coffee and sit down. What’s missing? Cats, of course.
Imagine walking into Seattle Meowtropolitan cafe. You get a coffee and sit down. What’s missing? Nothing, because we’ll have cats.
Our cafe is not only a place for people to love cats, but more importantly, to promote the idea of adopting shelter and rescue cats rather than buying a pet. Join us in our quest to continue the animal-loving reputation of our great city.
Wait, will cat hair get into my coffee?
Everyone quickly asks this question. The answer is no.
Cats will not be baristas. The kitchen and coffee-preparation area is separated by a full wall from the space where the cats roam. We do not intend to let kittens roll around in the coffee beans and make their beds in piles of pastries. That would be silly.
The space: cats and coffee have separate rooms:
The feline-friendly area is separated from the food-and-drink area by a wall and doors. You walk in to the cafe, order, get your drink, and then venture on into the cat room if you so choose. Look at the mock-ups:

What does Seattle Meowtropolitan have to offer?
At Seattle Meowtropolitan, cats will be kings and queens. Group-living, human interaction, and loving attention make for a unique cat haven. Cats in our cafe will grow to be friendly, active creatures who are happy. Humans in our cafe will grow accustomed to delicious coffee and cute cats.
In addition to being a sanctuary for cats, we will also serve great coffee, tea, and snacks. Grab a drink, grab a snack, grab a table by a cat, and enjoy your time in the presence of our feline friends. The space will have toys and structures for the cats. So we need humans to come in for the cats to play with.
If you fall for one of our cats, you may be eligible to adopt him/her and provide them with a comfortable home.
Will cats be comfortable in this environment?
The felines living in our cafe will have the benefit of proper socialization with humans and other cat friends. We strive to ensure the cats living in our space have a suitable temperament for meeting many new people.
There will be cat-only rooms that block out the sights and sounds of people, so if a cat wants to chill out without smelly humans, he/she may do so.
The cats will be rotated out every several hours, so no cat has be be bombarded by attention for an entire day. The well-being of the cats are the highest priority, so we will have protocols to ensure our cafe provides the safest and most nurturing home.
