Short Summary
After four years of working as a bartender in Hollywood, Doug’s once vibrant dreams of becoming a movie star have faded to black and white. A young actor from the midwest who once dreamed of the fairytale ending, princess and all, finds himself at a standstill on all fronts. That Hollywood star has been replaced by the neon bar sign where Doug works to pay the bills along with his entourage of buddies, each equally comedic and endearing despite their crass humor and wild antics. Over the course of a weekend, Doug finds himself forced to face the emotional fall out of his failed relationship, confront his regrets, and ultimately decide his next steps, all the while surrounded by a colorful cast of characters, each living their own reality of the Hollywood dream.

The best stories are not the ones with the biggest explosions, but rather the most relatable emotions. Based on a true story, producer and writer Troy Guthrie aimed his sights on creating a raw, funny, and authentic exploration of overcoming regret.
Guthrie and producing partner Ben Goglia scored independent film genius Bryan Ferriter to direct the film after working together on Interwoven Studios’ adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Ferriter brought on fellow University of Florida alum Peta McKenna for production design and sound mixer Whitney Worthen.
Guthrie secured Avi Kaye as the DP after noticing his work on the short film Scrap. He also hired badass 1st AD, Emily Hawkins, after they met at Antaeus Theatre Company. As the team expanded, Guthrie signed on the filmmaking Swiss army knife, Justin White, who serves as AC, drone pilot, gaffer, and trailer editor, as well as adept 2nd AD Ben Wendel.
In casting So Shot Film, Guthrie recruited many of the real-life inspirations to play the fictionalized versions of themselves. Guthrie himself stars as Doug, the film’s sardonic protagonist. His stellar entourage of buddies consists of actors Antonio Chicco, John Snow, Zachary Roozen, and Ulysses Randolph, who all bring hilarious honesty to the screen. The final piece of the puzzle came in the form of Meg Wright, the incredibly talented actress from Hulu’s Looking for Alaska who signed on to bring lead character Abigail to life.
A majority of the team comes from the University of Southern California or Interwoven Studios’ network: they are all creators who are passionate about this project and the story it tells.
