Hello!
Thanks to EVERYONE who contributed to our round one fundraiser campaign, and to those who attended our fundraiser show at Isis Music Hall. Pictured above is The Styrofoam Turtles! From our first Indiegogo fundraiser we were able to get close to 60% of our goal!
We are proud and excited to announce we've been approved for funding for SoundSpace!!
This ROUND 2 campaign is to bring us up to our goal of $70,000 - collateral for our loan!! We are trying to raise $25,000 to get there!!!
With every dollar you contribute and every conversation you have that shares or mentions SoundSpace, it all pushes us closer towards realizing our vision! Every little effort counts! This campaign will be running for 30 days, with more updates on the project as well as more promotional appearances.
The purpose of this campaign is to seal the deal!
SoundSpace is looking to become Asheville’s first full-fledged music practice space facility. We will be serving the critical needs of the music community, touring and local musicians alike. Soundspace will be created as a place of support for artists amidst the rapidly growing industry of music in the area.
Soundspace believes it will serve as a powerful, creative hub that will help to enrich and grow Asheville’s vibrant music scene, strengthening the abilities of anyone who wishes to play an instrument, while providing workspace for our many music professionals.
SoundSpace is managed and owned by musicians Claude Coleman Jr. and Brett Spivey, both Asheville residents with lifelong careers in music and studios domestically and abroad, in addition to having experience as builders and studio owners themselves.
SoundSpace will feature state-of-the-art music rehearsal spaces, hourly, and monthly rental spaces, and a dance/movement studio.

SoundSpace at Rabbit's will also feature a soul-food café. The property we are trying to acquire is the famed Rabbit’s Café and Motel, in the Southside area of downtown. We are thrilled to honor the legacy and history of Rabbit’s Café and Motel and humbled to partner with Clarence Robinson (#FlavorKing) A-B Tech Culinary Graduate and local chef who grew up behind the Motel and is a relative of the original owner. The motel was used for the touring Negro baseball leagues, of which Asheville had a dominant team. We wish to feature murals on our building sides that will honor all of this history!

What We Need!
SoundSpace is seeking $25,000 to make our 10% collateral needed for our loan, that we've just been approved for! This loan is to purchase the property and cover construction. Developing in phases, we will start Phase I with four state-of-the-art rehearsal fully decoupled rooms in the motel - two monthly lock-out rooms and two hourly and daily. Phase II brings in the redevelopment of the soul food kitchen, a lounge, as well as two additional rehearsal rooms and a dance and movement studio on the 2nd floor.

SoundSpace will be community based and created by musicians. There will be discounted time-periods, free rentals to music students, and workshops and clinics. Our rooms will be fully decoupled and soundproofed, great for recording rehearsals as well as providing the most isolation from room to room. SoundSpace will have a staffed office, safe surroundings and will start with late hours eventually going to 24 hours.
Having this resource for the area's many musicians will be nothing short of a game changer. It will enhance the industry of music as a whole, and it will give support for more creative work to occur. SoundSpace will also be invaluable to the many touring acts coming to the city, thereby becoming an excellent utility for the city's music venues.
The Team at SoundSpace is a dedicated and passionate group of Asheville business folks that share our same passion and drive, and we wish to thank them for their fierce dedication and energy: consultants Annice Brown and Jennifer Flynn, the office of Covestar Investment Realty and Jessica Auge, and special thanks to Erika McGilley at Natural Capital Investment Fund(NCIF).
"First There is A Mountain, Then There is No Mountain, Then There Is...."
We have been developing SoundSpace for close to three years now. We have searched and searched only to come close and lose the deal more than several times over, in our efforts to find the right property with a willing owner. With each hurdle overcome, we have become stronger and closer to the vision. Claude Coleman Jr. and Brett Spivey are both illness and trauma survivors with decades of grit, patience and passion in music, and stubborn energy that will see SoundSpace towards fruition. Won’t you join us?
