Samuel R. Delany is one of the icons of sf, one of the genre's great stylistic innovators whose brilliant achievements illuminate a path forward for all writers, but especially those of us who are queer and African-American. He has won four Nebula awards and two Hugos. He is a Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame inductee and a Science Fiction Writers of America Grandmaster. He remains one of literature's greatest living critics as well, his nonfiction serving to validate the seriousness of sf in the eyes of the larger literary community. Generations of readers of all backgrounds (as this collection demonstrates) hold him in great esteem for different reasons: some readers are awed by his novels, including Babel-17, Nova, and Dhalgren; some know him for his works of nonfiction such as The Jewel-Hinged Jaw and The Motion of Light in Water; some--storied writers such as Octavia E. Butler--as a professor and mentor who kickstarted their careers. He has judged the National Book Award, been the subject of an award-winning documentary (The Polymath, or The Life and Opinions of Samuel R. Delany, Gentleman, 2007). Delany has been a unique presence in the literary community for over 50 years.
Editors Nisi Shawl and Bill Campbell have gathered together an exciting array of fiction and incisive essays by over 30 acclaimed and award-winning authors, including Geoff Ryman, Nalo Hopkinson, Eileen Gunn, Nick Harkaway, and Junot Díaz, plus rising stars of astonishing power and creativity. Over three-quarters of the 150,000 words contained in this volume are original to the book. Amazingly diverse along multiple axes, Stories for Chip is a fitting tribute to Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master Samuel R. Delany, a genius who never met a boundary he didn't challenge.
WHAT WE NEED
Our goal is to raise $10,000. This is the minimum amount that will allow us to cover the costs of the book's publication, including paying authors a decent rate for their work.
THE STRETCH GOAL
At $16,000 we’ll be able to commission a hand bound gift edition of one copy of Stories for Chip to be presented to Mr. Delany.

Thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
P.S.: There's a fancy word for what we want to give Delany. It's called "Festschrift!"
