Short Summary
Hi, my name is Simon King and I am the Director of a short film called Sue. I’m currently in my final year of university studying Digital Film Production at Ravensbourne. The film is about bereavement; following a families struggle to hold together in the last few days of their mother’s life.
This is based on my own experience and I want to create something for families like mine who are going through a similar struggle. The most important thing for me is that I find a skilled team of filmmakers who understand the message, and now finally I feel like I'm ready to tell this story. We want to make this film a piece which is relatable, brings emotional aid and supports practical work to help people in need.
“Sue” is set in the last few days of a woman's life battling with liver cancer. Andy, husband to Sue, battles to hold his bond with his son together: whilst trying to provide everything for his wife, he struggles to be there for both relationships often resulting in conflicts. Torn apart and broken from the inevitability of Sue’s passing, he is forced to make a decision: focus purely on the last days with his wife Sue, or ground himself and be there for his only child George.
By contributing to our Indiegogo campaign you are helping to create something to honour families who face bereavement.

The Impact
This film aims to honour the struggle so many families face at the hands of Cancer and shares just a little of their pain. Once the film is completed we will send it out to the supporters as quickly as possible (by September 2017 latest), the film will then go to different film festivals. Once it has been seen and won some awards (with your help) we will release it free to everyone, enabling it to help as many people as possible. Simon is a filmmaker motivated to shed light on challenges people face with illness and how it can test relationships. Last year he directed a film to gather awareness for a rare mental disorder 'capgras syndrome,' which challenged him to demonstrate an ability to deal with sensitive matters on film.

This is a very sensitive subject for many people and rightly so, everyone going through a similar struggle is affected differently and has had different experience. Multiple members of crew have lost family to Cancer and other long term illness. Unfortunately, this is a not an uncommon struggle and it is something which the majority of us will go through at some point.
Risks & Challenges
If we don’t reach our £2500 goal we will be limited to what we can do. We have basic costs like food, travel and accommodation to cover which add up quickly when we have over 20 people in our cast and crew. Also certain departments such as Camera and Production Design need funds to truly bring this story to life; purchasing resources and equipment. Also, if you are not able to contribute monetarily to this project you can support us by sharing this campaign and spreading the word!
This is a challenge for any film, large or small. However, we have a very strong production team who are experienced in many different shoots and will make this as smooth as possible.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you don’t feel able to financially support you can still help us! The most important thing about this project is honouring those who have or are going through a similar struggle. If you share this page and spread the word about the project, this will bring us one step closer to achieving our goal. We want this project to support families, friends and individuals who deal with this battle!
Thank you,
Simon, Cast and Crew
